Boutique works to benefit community

-

With quality, trendy and affordable apparel, shoes, gifts and accessories for the whole family, McClain & Co. in downtown Benton is the place to go, whether it’s time to update a wardrobe or get a little “retail therapy.”

Owner Sara Bray McClain, who also is director of business development for Rivendell Behavioral Health Services Inc., has her own version of retail treatment. She balances owning a boutique and putting her psychology background to work with the support of her many friends in the mental health field.

“I get a surge of happiness greeting customers and helping them find the perfect fit or ensemble,” she said.

Celebrating her first year in business, McClain said her company took a 130-year-old, 5,600-square-foot building and “breathed new life into it,” thanks to her parents, who agreed to buy the building. McClain said her parents allowed her to carry out her vision and carry on the precepts they instilled in her, such as promoting prosperity.

“Ours is a story of the 10 talents on many levels,” McClain said, referring to the biblical parable. “The 10 women who buy for our store, the talents they bring to the business and the talents I have been given … through the sharing and testing of them, we have brought about a store employing others and benefiting our community.”

The “company” behind McClain & Co., she said, exemplifies the values of a strong work ethic, passion for helping others and utilizing one’s talents so they multiply.

“I love giving back to my hometown of Benton, which has given so much to me,” McClain said.
