THOMAS EDWARD ANDERSON, 76, of Sherwood, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015. He was born May 8, 1938 to Victor E. and Lillian J. Griffin Anderson. Thomas, “Andy”, was retired from the Army National Guard after 23 years of service. He worked in the concrete business for forty years until his retirement from Martin Marrietta Materials, Inc. in 2007. Thomas was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Sherwood First Baptist Church and the Living Word Sunday School Class. He enjoyed his family, the outdoors, traveling, loving on his granddaugh­ters and faithful canine companion, Cornbread Bob.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 48 years, Donna Stouffer Anderson; son, Todd Edward and wife Olivia Anderson; granddaugh­ters, Kaitlyn Grace and Carly Faith Anderson; brother, Richard Anderson of Ennis, Montana; sister, Mary Ann Kimberlin of Hot Springs; and numerous extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Maude Wright.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Sherwood First Baptist Church. ––––– ––––– CARL CARPENTER, 88, of Little Rock, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015. He was born Aug. 10, 1926 in Lonoke County, Ark., to Decatur and Ruth Faulkner Carpenter. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad, was a Deacon at Faith Baptist Church and a longtime former member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, any babies but especially his grandchild­ren.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Carpenter; daughters, Shelia Kalinowski (Bob) of Hot Springs, Marilyn Boykin (Bo) of Colorado, Margaret McLaughlin (Phil) of Benton and Carlene Mueller (Art) of Dallas; grandchild­ren, Jim Davis, Bobby (Brandy) Hughes, Nathan (Kristen) McLaughlin, Brad (Bethany) McLaughlin, Michelle (Chuck) McClintic, Ashley Mueller and Adam Mueller; five great-grandchild­ren, Brooklynn Hughes, Bailey Hughes, Presleigh McLaughlin, Jett McLaughlin and Kara McClintic; step-daughter, Michelle McLelland (John) and two step-grandchild­ren, Samuel and Sarah McLelland. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and mother of his children, Leola Conder Carpenter; second wife, Olena Phillips Carpenter and his siblings, R.L. Carpenter, Birl Carpenter, Elizabeth Webb, Ann Douglas, Richard Carpenter, Ben Carpenter, Dorothy Carr, infant twin brothers and Alberta Carpenter.

––––– ––––– ALLIE LUCILLE CHANDLER, age 94 of Little Rock, passed away Feb. 27, 2015 at Little Rock. She was born Oct. 25, 1920 in Walnut Ridge, Ark.; she was the daughter of Matilda and W. A. Butler Sr.

She is preceded in death by C.W. Chandler, husband; son, Stephen Chandler; and parents. Survivors include daughter, Angie; son, Clayton and wife Paula; and eight grandchild­ren.

––––– ––––– JOHNNIE ANN DUPRIEST, a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Canton, Ga., was born in North Little Rock, Ark., on Dec. 5, 1932, the daughter of John Phillip Mack and Anna Lou Heslep Mack. Mrs. DuPriest died on March 11, 2015, in Marietta, Ga., following a major stroke. She is predecease­d by her parents; her brother, James Phillip “Buddy” Mack; and her husband, Thomas E. DuPriest.

Mrs. DuPriest was 82 years old, having lived a long, fruitful and productive life and leaving behind myriad family and dear friends. She is survived by her three children, John Fowlkes and his wife, Sue, of Little Rock, Ark., Ruth Ann Ludden and her husband, Mike, of Marietta, Ga., and Lisa Toney and her husband, Dewayne, of Waleska, Ga.; and her sister-in-law, Nancy Mack, of Damascus, AR.

Mrs. DuPriest is survived by 12 grandchild­ren, 10 great-grandchild­ren, two great-great-grandchild­ren and six nieces and nephews.

––––– ––––– WILLO DEAN GOODE of Little Rock passed away March 13, 2015. She was born March 24, 1930 in Beebe, Ark., to Amos and Maurine Scroggs.

Willo Dean or Willie, as her friends called her, was a beautiful, sweet soul with a heart of gold and a wonderful sense of humor. She was an inspiratio­n to many with her strong faith in God and bravery during the past few years. She was never too busy to listen or help a friend or loved one in need. We will all miss her deeply.

Willo Dean is predecease­d by her husband, John Goode and her children, Nancy, David, and Johnny Goode. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Goode, of Little Rock; brother, Gary Scroggs of Beebe; grandsons, Reed Willett, Cory Willett (Mickey) and Taylor Willett (Micah), all of Little Rock; and her granddog, Izzy.

––––– ––––– STEVEN “WAYNE” GOULD, 53, of Maumelle went to be with the Lord on March 11, 2015. He was born in Fayettevil­le, N.C., on April 3, 1961 to George and Jeanette Gould.

Wayne served as a land surveyor for Garver in Little Rock. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Maumelle.

His wife, Shauna King Gould, survives him. Others remaining to cherish their time with Wayne are his sons, Chris Standridge of Conway, Branson Standridge (Joanie) of Charleston, S.C., and Joel Gould of Maumelle; daughters, Virginia and Linda Gould of Maumelle; five grandchild­ren, Aaron, Elizabeth, Jaina, Emily and Hannah Standridge; father, George Gould (Robin) of Atkins, Ark.; and a sister, Stephanie Roberts (Turner) of Florida. Wayne was preceded in death by his mother.

He was born in Wellington, Texas, on Jan. 21, 1937, to the late Charlie and Sybil Hall.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Clell, Alva and Charles and by sisters, Evelyn, Edith, Ella Ruth and Freeda.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Glenda Jean Hall and his son, Todd Hall and Todd’s wife Kim of North Little Rock. He is also survived by one sister, Doris Rushing of Searcy, Ark., and a host of nieces, nephews, and many friends he greatly loved.

Morris served in many capacities for many years at the First North Little Rock Assembly of God. Morris will be greatly missed by his family and all that his life touched. ––––– ––––– MAJ. GEORGE O. JACKSON (Ret. U.S. Army), age 94, of North Little Rock, passed away Monday, March 9, 2015. George was born on Feb. 12, 1921, to the late John F. and Janie Hooten Jackson in Quitman, Ark. He had top secret clearance in the Courier Service at NATO while serving as an Army officer stationed in Paris. After returning from overseas duty and settling in Arkansas, he enjoyed taking road trips to Eureka Springs with his wife and children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Pearl Jackson; one brother; one sister; and one grandson, Colin Andrew Couch.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike Jackson (Linda) of Maumelle and Lee Jackson and Dori Stegman of Santa Monica, Calif.; one daughter, Barbara Jackson of Sherwood; four grandchild­ren, Josh, Jeremy, and Bailey Couch and Blythe Allen; one great-granddaugh­ter, Isabell Rae Gordon; and one brother, Othar Jackson. He is also survived by a host of other friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Claude “Bub” Jones; a sister, Evelyn Medley; and a brother, Billy Moore.

––––– ––––– LOMAN WRIGHT KELLEY, 104, of Little Rock entered into his Heavenly rest March 12, 2015. He was born July 23, 1910 in Saline County to the late James and Sarah Kelley.

Loman retired from Coca Cola Company where he worked 36 years as a Route Manager. He proudly represente­d our country in the U.S. Navy, joining in 1944; and he served on the USS Latimer.

He loved to fish and play bingo. He and his wife of over 70 years, Era Mae, were lifelong members of Baptist Tabernacle Church, which is now known as Parkway Place Baptist Church.

The family is grateful to all his friends at The Cove at Good Shepherd for their care and support.

Those remaining to cherish his memories are his daughter, Mary McClure (Dan), of Little Rock; granddaugh­ter, Janet Mobbs (Kyle) of Mayflower; great-grandchild­ren, Amanda Keathley and Hunter Mobbs; great-great-granddaugh­ter, Brianna Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews. ––––– ––––– DR JAMES D KOONCE (COL/RET US ARMY), passed away in Little Rock, Ark. on March 12, 2015.

Born on March 7, 1944 in Harlingen, Texas, his parents were Maurine and J.D. Koonce. In 1967, he received his undergradu­ate degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, then went on to earn his dental degree from Baylor University School of Dentistry; a Masters of Science degree from Baylor University College of Dentistry Graduated School; and a degree in Pediatrics from Baylor University in Dallas, Texas.

Dr. Koonce was commission­ed Captain, U.S. Army, in 1975, and served as a clinician at Fort Sill, Okla.; a clinician at Fort Richardson, Alaska; director of pediatric residence at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Fort Meade, Md.; Chief of Graduate Dental Education in Washington, D.C.; and chief of all Army Medical Department education and training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas before retiring in February, 1996. While in the U.S. Army Dental Corps, he lectured extensivel­y around the world and published numerous scientific papers. His numerous military awards include The Legion of Merit.

Following his military career, he was named Department Chairman at the University of Louisville Health Science Center in Louisville, Ky. In 1998, he came to Little Rock to work at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, becoming in 2012 the Endowed Chair in Pediatric Dentistry. He retired as Director of Pediatric Dental Services in August 2014.

Dr. Koonce is survived by his daughter, Heather Steer (Nigel), granddaugh­ter, Mackenzie and grandson, Riley, all of Sooke, British Columbia, Canada; and by his sister, Sandra Worthingto­n (Wilson) of Carefree, Ariz.

Burial arrangemen­ts will be announced at a later date. The family suggests that any tributes to the memory of Dr. Koonce be directed to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cecil C. Lacy, Jr, two brothers and one sister and a granddaugh­ter, she is survived by her sons, James A. Lacy and wife, Norma of St. George, Utah and Terry D. Lacy of Holden, Maine; sisters, Helen Walters of Alexander and Luanne Franks of Garland, Texas; three grandchild­ren, seven great-grandchild­ren, and three great-great-grandchild­ren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rommie H. Morris, Sr; daughter, Vreda Kay Keathley; son, Rommie H. Morris, Jr; grandson, Alan Keathley; and sisters, Ethel Priest and Gladys Spann.

Viola was a long time member of Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church and a member of Iron Springs Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by three grandsons, seven great-grandchild­ren, seven great-great-grandchild­ren, four nieces, one nephew, and numerous other family members and friends.

––––– ––––– DANA L. POWELL, age 51, of Sherwood, passed away March 14, 2015 at Arkansas Hospice. She was born Feb. 16, 1964 in North Little Rock, Ark. and she was the daughter of William “Bill” and Janiece McDorman.

Dana was a nurse for Methodist Behavioral Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of Sylvan Hills Church of Christ and enjoyed reading, computers, video games and cats.

She is preceded in death by her father, Bill McDorman.

Survivors include her husband, Doug Powell; her mother, Janiece McDorman; a brother, Keith McDorman; a niece, Sarah McDorman; and a nephew, Anthony McDorman.

Sally worked in real estate and in insurance sales for many years.

Her sons, Tyler Roach (Kathleen) of Little Rock and Ron Jones (Amy) of Tampa, Fla., will always cherish the memories they have of Sally. She was known as Nana to her five grandchild­ren: Alexis and Anna Klaire Roach, Madeline, Trevor and Lauren Jones. ––––– ––––– CORNELIA ANNE REDWINE TAYLOR, formerly of North Little Rock, (born June 24, 1937) died on March 11 at the Charleston Hospice Center after a long, valiant struggle against COPD. She is survived by her only son, Robert Taylor and his wife Mary Taylor; her only granddaugh­ter, Kiri Taylor; and her only sister, Sarah Sue Redwine Carroll of Bull Shoals, Ark. Unconditio­nal love and devotion are traits that best capture the essence of Cornelia. Loved by all who were fortunate enough to come within her sphere, the love she so freely gave will be her lasting legacy.

She was born November 10, 1922 in Hector. She was raised in the Ozark Mountains in a family of farmers and moved to North Little Rock in the 1950s. She worked as an employee of C.B. Thompson’s Grocery Store (now Fort Thompson’s Sporting Goods) for 35 years and would retire back to a 260-acre Ozark cattle farm in the early ’80s, where she and her husband raised cattle, gardened, and entertaine­d family and friends or “her people” as she so fondly referred to them. She was known for her sense of humor, loving nature, compassion, and pecan pies. We all figure she greeted St. Peter with a smile and a Karo Nut Pie in hand.

She was preceded in death by her husband, L.C. Reed; parents, Bert and Nola Hurley; stepfather, Joe Hurley; and brother, Geral Don Hurley.

Art graduated from Camden High School and completed his college education at Norwood Institute in Midland, Mich. After returning to Camden, he joined his father in the automobile business. He was married to the former Renee’ Haley of Camden, but eventually went their separate ways as friends.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and their children, Megan (Joe and Ellie Kate) Daniels, Kimberly (Scott and Alex) Kaczenski, Timothy Berkley and Justin Wessels; and by his siblings, Dutch and Richard Berkley and Mary, Brad and Bill Hulett.

Larry grew up in Columbia, Mo. where he graduated from Hickman High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science and Masters Degrees in Medical Physics from the University of Missouri. Following graduation he worked at M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. Then moving to Little Rock, Ark., he worked and served as CARTI’s Vice President of Medical Physics, Engineerin­g and Informatio­n Services for 28 years. Larry was dedicated to ensuring the highest quality and radiation safety for the staff and patients.

Larry loved aviation. He received his pilot’s license and served on the Jacksonvil­le Air Force Base Community Council. He also volunteere­d with the Boy Scouts of America Quapaw Area Council, and was a well-respected board member of the Little Rock School District for 12 years, including a term as President. His goal was to design a system that would work for the success of every child in Little Rock.

After retiring to Fairfield Bay in 2013, he became President of the Indian Hills Golf Associatio­n and a member of the EMS Squad. He was also a volunteer tutor at Shirley Elementary and an accomplish­ed trumpeter and pianist. Larry loved golf, tennis, the lake and traveling with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kent Stark.

He is survived by three brothers, Terry Stark (Sterline) of Rose Bud, Nick Stark of Rose Bud, and Scott Stark (Kathy) of Heber Springs.

He was a graduate of Heber Springs High School and Arkansas State Teachers College. After serving time in the Army, he returned home and began a long teaching career in the Heber Springs School System where he mentored many students. He was also a skilled landscaper and had a wealth of knowledge about the history of Cleburne County dating back to the Native Americans that first settled there. His family enjoyed his stories of traveling to Mexico and the people he helped along the way. He was the family historian and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; one brother; her husband of 63 years; and two sons.

Survivors include three daughters, Vivian Huskey (George) of St. Louis, Mo., Shirley Bobo (Kenneth) of Hope, Ark. and Sarah Castleberr­y (Leo, Jr.) of Hot Springs; many grandchild­ren; great-grandchild­ren; and great-great-grandchild­ren; many extended family; and a host of “precious” friends.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmothe­r and caregiver to so many of her family. She “blessed” so many by her sweet spirit and caring heart. She was loved by all!

She was born June 17, 1918 in Hot Springs, the fourth of seven children born to the late Edward Toudy Hicks and Alice Victoria (Hurst) Hicks.

Jessie married Oliver Kadle (O.K. or June) Murry on Sept. 28, 1937. They resided in Norwalk, Calif. before retiring to Hot Springs. They were married 57 years before Oliver’s passing.

Jessie is survived by two grandchild­ren, Natalie Suzanne (Murry) Showalter and Christophe­r Brian Murry; five great-grandchild­ren, Sarah Anne Murry, Megan Emily Showalter, Jeffrey Allen Murry, Brenna Eileen Showalter and Aria June Blocklett-Murry; two sisters, Lena (Hicks) Adams and Ethel (Hicks) Lowder; one daughter in law, Sharon (Parette) (Murry) Robertson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jessie was preceded in death by her five year old son, Karl Murry; her 55 year old son, Dwain Harold Murry; her 48 year old grandson, Dwain Eric Murry; and four brothers.

Jessie was a strong, caring and resilient woman who was respected and loved by her family and friends.

Elsie Faye was born Nov. 14, 1921 in Tyronza. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ethel White of Marion, and her husband, Guy Lowder of West Memphis.

Elsie was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in West Memphis and retired from Marion High School after a 37 year teaching career.

Elsie Faye is survived by her beloved daughter, Vicki Saig; devoted son-in-law, Danny Saig; and cherished grandson, Sam Saig. She leaves three sisters: Jane White Rouault of The Villages, Fla.; Sammie Bachelor of Hot Springs; and Anna Belle Bracey of Blythevill­e. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Jones; parents, Albert and Julia Jones; children, Phyllis Goforth and Michael Jones; and siblings, Francis Duke, Erma Hayes and Albert Jones, Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Jones; two sons, Carter Jones (Jackie) and Leon Buchanan (Ann); 10 grandchild­ren; 19 great-grandchild­ren; and two great-great grandchild­ren; siblings, Shirley Miller, Dorothy Griffin (James), Sheba Cunningham, Alma Dennis, Joyce Petty (Pruitt), Wilma Albright, Donald Jones and Lorenzo Jones (Virginia); and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends. ––––– ❖ ––––– MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Anita Fay Pugh (Becky) passed away peacefully Friday, March 13, 2015 in Allen Morgan Health Center at Trezevant Manor, Memphis, Tenn. Becky was born April 21, 1921 to Minnie and Reuben Beck in Kevil, Ky. She was raised in Paducah, Ky. She married the late Frank Edrington in 1948, and they made their home in Osceola, Ark., where Frank was in the Edrington family farming business. They had two daughters, Anita and Betty. Frank died in 1976. Becky later married the late Bob Pugh in 1982, and they continued to live in Osceola. Becky was a former president of the Osceola chapter O of PEO, a philanthro­pic organizati­on, and she was a member of the First Methodist Church of Osceola for 60 years. Becky moved to Trezevant Manor in Memphis in 2004 and immediatel­y immersed herself in the many volunteer and social opportunit­ies there. She had the nickname of “Ms. Trezevant” because she was often the first person to welcome new residents with a smile and an invitation to supper in her apartment. She loved her home at Trezevant Manor and her many dear friends who enveloped her life and brought much joy to her during the past 11 years. Becky loved to travel, and she will be remembered for her sweet, sunny smile, her optimism, and her love and devotion to her family and friends. Becky is survived by her two daughters, Anita McCarty (Mike) and Betty Julian (Roland), five grandchild­ren: Michael McCarty (Nikki), Frank McCarty (Nicole), Phil McCarty (Jennifer), Brad Julian (Jaclyn), and Rebecca Julian; and five great-grandchild­ren: Caden McCarty, Trenten McCarty, Emerson Julian, Madison McCarty, and Miles Edrington McCarty. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, contributi­ons be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 393, Osceola, Ark. 72370; The Trezevant Manor Foundation, 117 North Highland St., Memphis, Tenn. 38111; or charity of donor’s choice. ––––– ––––– ROANOKE, Va. — Kathryn “Kay” Nix Norwood Koehler of Roanoke, and formerly of Little Rock, Ark., died March 13, 2015 following a brief illness. The daughter of Frank A. Norwood and Dorothy Lacy Corbett Norwood Preddy, Kay was born May 31, 1930 in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved step-father, Joseph G. Preddy. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 39 years, John O. Koehler. Kay was a graduate of Louisiana State University where she earned a BA in journalism and worked for many years as a reporter, columnist and assistant editor of the Style section of the Arkansas Gazette. After retiring from journalism, she worked with her husband as an administra­tor of the family-owned nursing home in Little Rock. She moved to Roanoke following the death of her husband in 1996 and became active in many local organizati­ons including the Roanoke and state chapters of the American Associatio­n of University Women, Opera Roanoke, the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, and the Friends of Roanoke County Public Library.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and fiancé, Mike Dykes of Savannah, Ga,; daughter, Kathryn of Nashville, Tenn.; son, John and wife, Gia of Roanoke; granddaugh­ter, Katharine Perch of Philadelph­ia, Pa.; grandsons, Joseph and David Koehler of Roanoke; grandson, Oscar Yockey of Nashville; and many friends and extended family. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Pulmonary Care and Palliative Care teams at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the staff of Brandon Oaks.

A memorial service will be held at Oakey’s South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke on March 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Heifer Internatio­nal or Friends of Roanoke County Public Library.
