Vehicle still sought after hit-and-run

Police continued to search Sunday for the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred Saturday morning in Little Rock.

According to a police report issued Sunday, two people found Mark Blazer, 25, of Little Rock lying in the right lane of the eastbound Interstate 30 frontage road at Chicot Road.

Blazer had been hit about 5:10 a.m. He was transporte­d to UAMS Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:55 a.m. His body is being held at the state Crime Laboratory, the report states.

Police found clothing and blood at the scene but located no evidence from a vehicle.

The people who found Blazer did not see the crime, police said.

––––– ––––– ROANOKE, Va. — Kathryn “Kay” Nix Norwood Koehler, of Roanoke, and formerly of Little Rock, Ark., died March 13, 2015 following a brief illness. The daughter of Frank A. Norwood and Dorothy Lacy Corbett Norwood Preddy, Kay was born May 31, 1930 in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved stepfather, Joseph G. Preddy. Also preceding her in death was her husband of 39 years, John O. Koehler. Kay was a graduate of Louisiana State University, where she earned a B.A. in journalism and worked for many years as a reporter, columnist, and assistant editor of the Style section of the Arkansas Gazette. After retiring from journalism, she worked with her husband as an administra­tor of the family-owned nursing home in Little Rock. She moved to Roanoke following the death of her husband in 1996 and became active in many local organizati­ons including the Roanoke and state chapters of the American Associatio­n of University Women, Opera Roanoke, the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, and the Friends of Roanoke County Public Library.

She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and fiance, Mike Dykes of Savannah, Ga.; daughter, Kathryn of Nashville, Tenn.; son, John and wife, Gia of Roanoke; granddaugh­ter, Katharine Perch of Philadelph­ia, Pa.; grandsons, Joseph and David Koehler of Roanoke; grandson, Oscar Yockey of Nashville; and many friends and extended family. The family wishes to express their thanks to the Pulmonary Care and Palliative Care teams at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and the staff of Brandon Oaks.

A memorial service will be held at Oakey’s South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke on March 17, 2015 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Heifer Internatio­nal or Friends of Roanoke County Public Library.
