Turn back clock on it
I am a retired hospital administrator and have administered the unnecessary cost of paying for an hour not worked when we “spring forward” and then paying for an hour of unworked time at overtime rates when we “fall back.” This practice has unnecessarily increased health-care costs and produced absolutely nothing. I imagine that adding this entire daylight saving time cost to every business that operates 24/7 would post a staggering number. And, it is totally nonproductive!
In addition to the business cost, the personal cost of this unnecessary disruption is gigantic. Three hundred million people staggering through the “changing of the clocks” twice a year is an exercise in wasteful activity. Running late for work or arriving an hour early is an annual agony for many. Plus, the sudden mandated synchronization of a person’s internal clock to the daylight saving time clock inflicts unnecessary and disruptive confusion.
Ending daylight saving time would be a unique legislative action. It would cost nothing to administer and would eliminate unnecessary business and personal costs. Instead of adding more legislation, terminate this legislation.
If we keep doing what we are doing, we will keep getting what we are getting. And that is a lot of activity producing nothing but unnecessary cost and disruption. STANSEL HARVEY Hot Springs
