St. Paddy’s Day
Country duo the Swon Brothers — Zach and Colton Swon, finalists on NBC’s The Voice — will perform at 7:30 p.m. today, following the 6:30 p.m. First Ever 12th Annual World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade, along 98 feet of Bridge Street in downtown Hot Springs. Arkansas folk group Celtic Breeze Band will perform at 7 p.m. today in the Ed Coulter Performing Arts Center, Vada Sheid Community Development Center, Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, 1600 S. Competition winners
Pianist Ethan Day of Sherwood won the piano category and first
place overall in the Stella Boyle Smith Young Artists Competition on March 7 at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He’ll receive $250 for the former honor and $750 for the latter.
Second place ($500) and strings category ($250) winner was violinist Qingkai Kevin Li of Little Rock. Flutist Kaitlin Jones of Fort Smith won the woodwinds category and $250.
Documentaries
The Clinton School of Public Service, in partnership with the Little Rock Film Festival, will screen Frederick Wiseman’s documentary National Gallery at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock. The documentary examines the London museum inhabited by Western art from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Wiseman will be present. Admission is free. The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, 503 E. Ninth St., Little Rock, will screen Lioness, a 2010 documentary about a group of female Army support soldiers who were part of the first program to send women into direct ground combat, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Team Lioness included a member from Mena: Specialist Shannon Morgan, mechanic. The museum labels the film appropriate for viewers 12 and older. Admission, popcorn and refreshments are free.
