––––– – –––– BETTY LOUISE SEILER BALLENGER, 85, of Little Rock passed from this life March 25, 2015. She was born August 29, 1929 to the late Harold and Leona Seiler in New Orleans, La. She had one brother, Mickey Seiler.

Betty fought a long and hard battle with her illness for the last two years. She was a former Arkansas State employee and retired after 23 years of service. Growing up, she also did volunteer work for Red Cross. She played the piano and organ at her church for 47 years.

She married Gene E. Ballenger on December 23, 1956. He preceded her in death, as did her parents and brother. She was blessed with two children who survived her, Betty Loujean Ballenger McDougal of Mabelvale and Danny Charles Ballenger ( Nina) of Colorado Springs, Colo. Her four grandchild­ren also remain: Brandon and Samantha McDougal of Mabelvale and Brooke and Andrew Ballenger of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many other relatives from Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, and Kentucky.

––––– – –––– ALICE JONES SOUTHERN BLAGG, age 96, died on March 24, 2015 in Fort Smith. She was born in Louisiana on October 31, 1918 to William T. Sr. and Annie Violet Jones. The widow of Chancy Blagg, she was a longtime resident of Little Rock and moved to Fort Smith in 2008.

She was predecease­d by her parents, first husband Charles Southern and six brothers, Ernest, Sidney, Alfred, Bill, Walter and Ralph Jones. She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Ross ( Roger) of Fort Smith, a son, Ralph “Sid” Southern of Jacksonvil­le, stepson, Chancy Blagg Jr. ( Berta) of Maumelle and stepdaught­er, Mary Johnson of Hagerstown, Md. Alice also leaves behind eight grandchild­ren and 11 great- grandchild­ren.

Gary Brewer Sr., her husband of 30 years, remains here to cherish the memories they made together. ––––– – –––– LUCY BRIGHT RODGERS CROWE, a resident of North Little Rock, died Tuesday March 24 at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born May 21, 1925 in Little Rock, Ark. Lucy managed the Pebble Room Restaurant for 12 years until her retirement.

She is survived by her son, Dean Rodgers of North Little Rock; five grandchild­ren; nine great- grandchild­ren, two great- great- grandchild­ren; and lots of nieces and nephews that she loved very much. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Claude Rodgers in 1968, Tom Crowe in 1985, and daughter, Rosiland Ann Banks in 1995.

––––– – –––– NAOMI RUTH NAIL GUNTER, 91, of Sherwood passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015. She was born May 15, 1923, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to William and Gertrude Mathis Nail. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and retired from Insurance Services Office after 30 years of service. She loved gardening and fishing.

She is survived by her nephews and niece, Tim Ezzi, Tony Ezzi, Jerry Ezzi and Bill Nail, Fran Swanson and many others throughout the United States; and several great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Gunter; her parents; and ten brothers and sisters.

––––– – –––– BILLY LEE MANTOOTH, 85, of Sherwood, Arkansas, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Billy was born July 31, 1929, to Homer Sr. and Marie Mantooth. He worked for Coleman Dairy for several years prior to joining the family owned plumbing business in Jacksonvil­le, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hulett Mantooth of almost 67 years; sons: Gerald Brockman ( Sheila), Steven Mantooth ( Nell), David Mantooth ( Mary), Gary Mathooth ( Tamara) and Earle Mantooth ( Rona). He is also survived by nine grandchild­ren and 14 great- grandchild­ren; two brothers, Opie Mantooth ( DeLois) and Homer Jr. Mantooth ( Margaret).

Pops loved to go fishing at Peckerwood Lake, working in his garden and spending time with his family. He loved telling fish stories. He was a dedicated husband, father, father- in- law, grandpa, brother and friend who loved his family deeply. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. His favorite saying was “In a 100 years, it won’t matter.” We love you Pops.

––––– – –––– BERTHA GAISBAUER TURNER went to be with her Angels the 24th of March 2015. Born on March 17, 1917, Bertha turned 98 years old on St. Patrick’s Day. She was a long time member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and a former member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church and also a member of the Christian Mothers Sodality at St. Edward’s.

Bertha was a seamstress at the Tuf- Nut Garment factory for 37 years and worked at Teletype Corp. for seven years. As a member of the American Business Women’s Associatio­n, she loved to attend their meetings.

She was always active and her family said that her feet were never still. She loved to dance in her younger days, and she would readily demonstrat­e her favorite dance, the Charleston, whenever asked. She brought great joy to her family and especially her grandchild­ren. Bertha loved everyone and never spoke poorly of anyone. She truly was an inspiratio­n to us all.

Mrs. Turner was preceded in death by her first husband, Claude R. Aldridge and her second husband, Cecil J. Turner; daughter, Claudine and husband Jim Hendry, daughter, Patricia and husband John Iannaci; granddaugh­ters, Sandra, Linda and Lisa and grandson John. She is survived by son, Thomas A. Aldridge and his wife June, son, Richard E. Turner, and daughter, Cecilia J. and her husband Will McFarlin III. She had 14 grandchild­ren, 41 great- grandchild­ren and six great- great- grandchild­ren.

Her nephews, John Schlereth, Vincent Schlereth, Colton Bingham, Blake Bingham and grandsons, Will McFarlin IV and Kevin McFarlin will participat­e as pallbearer­s in the funeral.

The family expresses their appreciati­on to Sandra Moon for assistance in the care of Mrs. Turner during her final days.

––––– – –––– MARGUERITE “MAGGIE” ARMSTRONG WHITTEN, 87, slipped into the arms of Jesus on March 25, 2015. A celebratio­n quickly followed as she was reunited with her husband, daughter, family and friends. She was born on June 4, 1927 to the late Helen Nickles and James Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, James Robert “Doc” Whitten, her daughter Carol Christine “Chris” Whitten Fisher and sisters, Lucille Armstrong Gunsaulis and Jeanette Armstrong Batisto.

Maggie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She graduated from North Little Rock High School and later obtained her real estate license. She worked and earned many awards in the real estate business until age 77. Maggie was one of the original “Golden Girls”, a group of real estate ladies that celebrate birthdays, holidays and other special days together.

Maggie is survived by her son, Jim Whitten ( Jan) and sister, Ruth Armstrong Farris. Hone, as she was affectiona­tely called by her five grandchild­ren: John Trice, Betsy Trice Meacham ( Allen), Misse Kaplon, Ryan Whitten ( Erin), Kevin Whitten ( Ashley) and eight great- grandchild­ren.

Born and raised in rural Pulaski County, Margaret worked as insurance office manager for 30 years. A lifelong Baptist, Margaret began teaching Sunday school in 1955 and has led WMU and taught bible studies until 2012. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beebe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sparks, son and daughter- in- law, Larry and Sharon Skinner Sparks, and brothers, Leon Ray and Oliver Ray. She is survived by her daughter, Becky ( Randy) Harrington; son, Tim ( Carol) Sparks; six grandchild­ren; nine great- grandchild­ren; and sister, Betty ( Paul) Russell.

Glenda was born in Medford, Oregon, to Amos and Gaitha Bench on January 24, 1947. She enjoyed reading her Bible and studying its history and symbolism, playing video games, watching horror movies, playing practical jokes, being with her family, and listening to the musical stylings as varied as The Hinson Family and Rod Stewart. She was funny, outrageous, deeply loving, and a secret rebel. She liked purple leather fringed jackets, and wished she could wear big feathered hats to church. She will be missed deeply.

Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Amos and Gaitha Bench; a brother, Lloyd Bench; and a sister Gaitha “Tootsie” Rush. Glenda is survived by her sisters, Ruth Scott, Esther Shaffer, and Donna Pruitt; son, Johnny New of Michigan; daughter, Tammy Blevans of Conway; and daughter and son- in- law, Tina and Robert McCully of Bigelow; eight grandchild­ren: Heather, Stefoni, Amos and Olivia from Johnny, Justin and Tony from Tammy, and Nicole and Job from Tina; and six great- grandchild­ren.

Pat was born July 20, 1933, in Morgantown, Kentucky, to the late Oakley Everett & Dora Butler McKinney. She was a 1954 graduate of Jewish Hospital College of Nursing in St Louis, Mo. ––––– – –––– PRAIRIE GROVE — Chris Lewis, age 33, of Prairie Grove, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He was born January 10, 1982 in Fayettevil­le to Tommy and Ginny Carter Lewis. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfathe­r, Tom Lewis Sr. of Fayettevil­le, Arkansas and his maternal grandparen­ts, Alan and Sue Carter of Hazen, Arkansas.

He was an honor graduate of Prairie Grove High School and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Business Administra­tion.

He was a member of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayettevil­le. Chris was a board member of the Arkansas Automotive Dealers Associatio­n, a member of Fayettevil­le Leadership and was a past treasurer of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Alumni Associatio­n.

His knowledge and love of cars at an early age led to his career choice as the General Manager of Lewis Chrysler Dodge in Fayettevil­le. Chris enjoyed helping others and through his company was able to support education and sports in the local elementary schools. Chris was an exceptiona­l manager of people. His innate ability to justly deal with his employees was clearly evident in the reciprocal love his employees showed Chris as they went the extra mile for him.

His hobbies were metal detecting and target practice. He especially enjoyed four- wheeler riding with his cousins and friends. Chris loved writing and was a published author of a children’s book, The Adventurou­s Cousins, which was based on his childhood memories with his cousins.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alecia Lewis; one son, Thomas Lewis; his parents, Tommy and Ginny Lewis of Lincoln, Arkansas; a sister, Mindy Lewis of Fayettevil­le, Arkansas, his paternal grandmothe­r, Margaret Lewis Leonard of Fayettevil­le, Arkansas, his beloved jungle cat, Pickles, and a host of loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Cremation arrangemen­ts are by Moore’s Chapel. The Celebratio­n of Life memorial service will be 10 a. m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in Fayettevil­le. He was born December 24, 1927, in Abilene Texas to Martin Lloyd Smith and Daisy Ruth Lanotte Smith. He was a member of College Church of Christ and a retired professor in the Chemistry Department at Harding University.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lorene Rose Smith; three sons, Walter Smith and wife Kelly of Rockwall, Texas, Scott Smith and wife Cheri of Searcy, Charles Smith and wife Julie of Richardson, Texas; one daughter, Rosemary Smith McKee of Missoula, Montana; one sister, Zoe Barten and husband Chris of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; thirteen grandchild­ren; and two great- grandchild­ren.

Carroll loved his family. He had a lifelong passion for nature. An avid caver, he led many expedition­s with the caving club at Harding University. He grew beautiful daffodils and daylilies in his expansive garden. A voracious reader, he was a devoted student of God’s word and lived his life as a humble servant to Christ. For many years, he served as a Bible teacher and elder at the Downtown Church of Christ.
