The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will tour St. Edward Catholic Church, 801 Sherman St., Little Rock, at noon Friday as part of its monthly “Sandwiching in History” series that targets Pulaski County structures and sites. There will be a brief pre-tour lecture; participants are encouraged to take their lunches. Admission is free. June concert
The North Little Rock Community Band will perform music by composers with Arkansas connections in a program Music Director Rico Belotti calls “June Is for Arkansas,” 7:30 p.m. Friday under the canopy at Lakewood Village, on McCain Boulevard between North Hills Boulevard and U.S. 67/167. The program will include pieces by J. Clifton Williams, Jared Spears, Charles Booker, Randall Standridge, David Gorham, Harold Walters, and late Arkansas Composer Laureate W. Francis McBeth. Author Round Up
Attendees can listen to and interact with five Arkansas children’s book authors — Carol Dabney ( Bows and Butterflies), Sharrol Frederick ( Pickles Play Baseball), Misti Kenison (The Tiny Travelers Series: Egypt and France), Erica Taylor ( Figler, My Imaginary Friend) and Ebony White ( Mr. Colors Saves the Day) — during the Arkansas Author Round Up, 10 a.m. Saturday at the Central Arkansas Library System’s Hillary Rodham Clinton Children’s Library & Learning Center, 4800 W. 10th St., Little Rock. Courthouse Harmony
Multi-instrumental and vocal trio Harmony — Mary and Robert Gillihan and Dave Smith — will perform at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Stone County Court Square in Mountain View, part of the Ozark Folk Center State Park’s Court Square Concert Series. The group will perform for an hour under the shade of the oak tree on the courthouse’s east side and members of the public can join the group for an hourlong classic pickin’ session at 3. Admission is free; take a lawn chair and an acoustic instrument if you have one.
Also this weekend, the park, 1032 Park Ave., Mountain View, will host its annual Auto Harp Weekend, featuring workshops for all levels, today-Saturday. Dale Jett, grandson of Maybelle Carter, and his group Hello Stranger will perform music by the Carter Family, 2-3 p.m. Friday outdoors in the park’s Craft Village and in a full concert at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $12, $19.50 for a two-show package. Registration fee for the weekend is $200, which includes passes and admission to all events.
