Four-run eighth lifts Missions

San Antonio scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie on its way to a 10-6 victory Wednesday night over the Arkansas Travelers at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.

Arkansas reliever Eduard Santos (2-1) got the first out of the eighth, but gave up three consecutiv­e hits and a walk before he was relieved by Kurt Spomer with the bases loaded and the Missions leading 7-6. Spomer gave up a RBI single to Alberth Martinez and a two-run single to Trea Turner to bust open the game.

The Missions (21-30) opened a 3-0 lead in the first off Arkansas starter Kyle McGowin, but the Travelers (29-22) came back to tie the score with three runs in the top of the third, two coming on a Eric Stamets’ home run to left and the third on Wade Hinkle’s double.

Arkansas scored three more in the top of the fourth to lead 6-5 after San Antonio scored two in the bottom of the third. Stamets’ sacrifice fly made it 5-4 before Cal Towey gave the Travelers the lead with a two-run double to score Jared Mitchell and Sherman Johnson.

San Antonio tied the score 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth when Duanel Jones scored on Jason Hagerty’s double down the right-field line.

San Antonio relievers Aaron Northcraft, Brandon Alger (3-1) and Michael Dimock retired 13 of the final 14 Arkansas hitters, including the final seven, in relief of starter Elliot Morris.

McGowin allowed 10 hits,

Corpus Christi took advantage of three walks to score two runs in the eighth innings as the Hooks (35-16) rallied to defeat Northwest Arkansas (31-19) at Whataburge­r Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

With the game tied 1-1, Teoscar Hernandez led off the bottom of the eighth with a single to center field. Andrew Aplin moved Hernandez to second with a sacrifice bunt, and consecutiv­e walks to Tyler White, Colin Moran and Conrad

Gregor brought in Hernandez for a 2-1 lead.

Jiovanni Mier hit into a forceout to drive home White for a 3-1 lead.

The Naturals tried to rally in the top of the ninth. Balbino Fuenmayor singled up the middle and was replaced by runner Terrance Gore. After Hunter Dozier struck out for the second out of the inning, Gore advanced to second on defensive indifferen­ce before scoring on Mike Bianucci’s single.

Alex Liddi flied out to Aplin to end the game.

Lane Adams drove in the Naturals’ other run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning that tied the game at 1-1.

Sam Selman (1-1) took the loss in relief of starter J.C. Sulbaran, giving up 2 runs on 1 hit in 11/ innings. Sulbaran

3 allowed 1 run on 7 hits with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk in 6 innings.

Kyle Westwood (3-2) didn’t allow a run over three innings for the victory, and Jandel Gustave picked up his sixth save despite allowing a run.
