Snell, Hopkins lead the way for Scrappers

ARKADELPHI­A — Quarterbac­k Leonard Snell had four of Nashville’s seven rushing touchdowns as the Scrappers took a 49-28 victory over Arkadelphi­a on Friday night.

Snell finished with 18 carries for 129 yards and 4 touchdowns. Darius Hopkins added 221 yards and 2 touchdowns on 27 carries.

“Our running game has been strong all year and tonight it was no different,” Nashville Coach Mike Volarvich said. “Our whole team has done a great job blocking. Our offensive line played well and our receivers did a good job staying on blocks.”

Down 14-7 after one quarter, Nashville (4-0, 1-0 7-4A) outscored Arkadelphi­a (1-3, 0-1) 21-7 in the second quarter to take a 28-21 lead at half. Trent Harris, Darius Hopkins and Snell accounted for the 21 points, each scoring once.

All three of Arkadelphi­a’s first-half scores came from quarterbac­k Jeff Blake — two passing and one rushing. Blake found Brayden Bebee for a 12-yard touchdown pass and Shemar Dickens for a 9-yard score in the first quarter. Blake also had a 6-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

Snell tied the game at 7-7 with eight minutes remaining in the first quarter on a 61-yard touchdown run.

Blake scored the only Arkadelphi­a touchdown of the second half on a 17-yard run with late in the third quarter.

“We started strong, but we just couldn’t finish,” Arkadelphi­a Coach J.R. Eldridge said. “Nashville has a great team and a lot of athletes on the field.”

Nashville scored three times in the second half, two coming on 13-yard runs by Snell. Hopkins added a 29yard touchdown run with three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Defensive end Billy Stewart recorded four sacks for the Scrappers.
