Fisher unsure about QB
Florida State Coach Jimbo Fisher was unsure Monday if Everett
Golson would be ready for Saturday’s Atlantic Coast Conference showdown at Clemson. While Golson is listed as the starting quarterback on No. 17 Florida State’s depth chart, that doesn’t mean he’ll start Saturday at No. 3 Clemson, according to Fisher. Fisher said the decision will mostly hinge on Golson’s health. He was held out of last Saturday’s 45-21 victory over Syracuse because of a concussion. Sean Maguire, who made his second career start, threw for 349 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Maguire started last year’s 23-17 victory over Clemson and passed for 304 yards with 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Fisher said running back Dalvin Cook has made progress from the ankle injury but did not say if he would be ready Saturday.
Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer said quarterback J.T. Barrett will forfeit his summer financial aid as part of his punishment for being cited for operating a vehicle while impaired. Meyer handed out a similar punishment in 2012 when offensive lineman Jack Mewhort and tight end Jake Stoneburner were arrested on misdemeanor charges. Barrett was cited for the misdemeanor early Saturday morning by Columbus police and was suspended one game by Meyer. He will sit out this week when the top-ranked Buckeyes play Minnesota at home. Cardale Jones, who started the first seven games of the season, will start in Barrett’s place.
Baylor Coach Art Briles said quarterback Seth Russell is expected to make a full recovery after season-ending neck surgery. Briles said Monday that Russell is out of the hospital and comfortable after Friday’s procedure to repair damage to his cervical vertebra. Russell fractured a bone in his neck late in a 45-27 victory over Iowa State on Oct. 24.
