ALEXANDRIA, La. — Services for Thelma Johnston will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, in the chapel of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Thelma Johnston, age 94, of Alexandria, died on October 31, 2015, in Rapides Regional Medical Center. She was born on April 29, 1921, in Simms, La., to the union of Goode Lemmons and Bessie Brown Lemmons.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Margie “Marlaine” Johnston Dunn and Anita Johnston Backus (John C.); one son, Leonard Johnston III (Roxann); grandchild­ren, John B. Backus, Brandon S. Backus, Leann Backus Ward (Vince), Charles “Bret” Carey, Stephanie Carey VanDressar (David); siblings Margie Miles and Melvin Lemmons; two great-grandchild­ren; and one great-great granddaugh­ter.

–––––❖––––– AIKEN, S.C. — Mrs. Autha Janelle Scoggin Williams, 89, passed away peacefully at an Augusta, Ga., Hospital Sunday, November 1, 2015. She was born May 20, 1926, in Dierks, Arkansas, to the late Authur H. and Selma Lewey Scoggin. Mrs. Williams graduated from Dierks high school and received her BA in Library Science from East Texas State University. She worked until retirement as a Librarian for the US Government, holding positions in Texas, Virginia, New Jersey, Kentucky, Panama, Georgia and finally at Fort Eustis in Newport News, VA. After retirement from Civil Service she became a licensed real estate agent. She moved to Aiken, S.C., in May 2014 and resided at Pepper Hill Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center. She was an active member of DAR, Daughters of the Confederac­y, Soroptimis­t Internatio­nal, Pilot Club Internatio­nal and was of Protestant faith.

Mrs. Williams was predecease­d by her husband, Henry J. Williams. She and her husband were avid travelers and collectors and longtime supporters of Florida Gator football. She was also an avid genealogis­t and visited most court houses and many cemeteries throughout the South and Mid Atlantic tracing her family history.

She is survived by her two sisters, Helen Janice (Eddie) Bender, Carrollton, Texas; Norma Jeanette Williams, San Antonio, Texas; and a brother, Donald H. (Becky) Scoggin, Aiken, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shiners Hospital for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Her remains will be laid to rest beside her husband in Day, Fla. Services will be private. Shellhouse Funeral Home, Inc., 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken, S.C.

–––––❖––––– BRYAN, Texas — Margie Imogene McCord peacefully passed away on October 31, 2015, in Bryan, Texas, at the age of 88 years. A graveside service will be planned at a later date at the Little Rock National Cemetery. Services are in the care of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home and Crematory in Bryan College Station, Texas.

She was born to Monroe and Eliza Knight on June 8, 1927, in Grapevine, Texas and grew up in Winnsboro, Texas. She attended Draughn Business School in Dallas and worked in the civilian pay office at Love Field during WWII.

In 1946 she married Henry E. McCord of Dallas. They lived in Galveston, Texas City, and many years in Little Rock, Arkansas, after surviving Hurricane Carla. Imogene retired from Little Rock Public Schools as a Library Aide and loved Jeopardy, crossword puzzles, sewing, genealogy, gardening and dogs!

Her husband, Henry precedes her in death, along with parents, Monroe and Eliza Knight, brothers, Clyde and Monroe, sister, Dorothy and great-grandson, Jackson McCord. Sisters, Ruth Carpenter and Annie Dunn, both of Winnsboro, survive her; as well as son, Steve McCord (Susan), Sherwood, Arkansas; daughter, Linda Hawes (Sam), College Station, Texas; and grandchild­ren, Mark and Casey McCord (Erin) and Annie Miller (Joseph); and great-granddaugh­ters Sydney and Anna McCord.
