Terror victim’s widow sues county
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The widow of a man killed in last month’s terror attack in San Bernardino has filed four claims against the county seeking damages, according to a newspaper report.
The claims were filed in late December on behalf of Renee Wetzel, whose husband, Michael Wetzel, 37, was one of 14 people killed in the Dec. 2 attack at the Inland Regional Center, The Sun of San Bernardino reported Tuesday.
Michael Wetzel of Lake Arrowhead worked as a supervising environmental health specialist for the county. His widow is seeking lost wages and general damages. She also is seeking general damages for each of her three minor children.
The claims, which list the county and 25 unidentified people as respondents, allege Wetzel’s death was preventable and caused by negligent, careless actions of the respondents.
The two shooters — county environmental health specialist Syed Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik — were killed in a gunbattle with police.
