Futurebird­s, Falco’s film, Victor Goines on menu

The Futurebird­s, along with opening act Susto, will perform at 9 p.m. today at Stickyz Rock ’n’ Roll Chicken Shack. Admission is $10.

The Futurebird­s, formed in Athens, Ga., in 2008, released its debut album, Hampton’s Lullaby, two years later. The band has released three more albums, the latest of which, Hotel Parties, came out in 2015. With its use of pedal steel guitar, banjo, mandolin and acoustic and electric guitars, along with four-part harmonies, the group has been described as “psychedeli­c country.”

Tragikly White will perform at 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $10.

Arkansas musical renaissanc­e man Tav Falco, known since 1979 for his band, Panther Burns, will present the debut of his film, Urania Descending, at 7 p.m. today at the Ron Robinson Theater. Admission is free.

Falco, who grew up in Gurdon, lived in Memphis before migrating to Vienna, where he now makes his home. He released his latest album, Command Performanc­e, in February and also co-wrote Mondo Memphis, a two-part book which Falco and co-author Erik Morse call a “450-page encycloped­ic history and psychogeog­raphy of the city of Memphis.”

The Victor Goines Quartet, a New Orleans jazz combo, will perform at 8 p.m. today at South on Main. Tickets are $36.75, $34.50 and $23.

Goines, a clarinetis­t and saxophonis­t, is the director of jazz studies at Northweste­rn University in Evanston, Ill. He has collaborat­ed with Terence Blanchard, Ruth Brown, Dee Dee Bridgewate­r, Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Dizzy Gillespie, Marcus Roberts, Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder.

Goines’ quartet members are Aaron Diehl on piano, Phillip Kuehn on bass and Marion Felder on drums.

Singer-songwriter Elise Davis, a Little Rock native now living in Nashville, Tenn., will perform an “after-hours” show at 9 p.m. Friday.

Admission is $10; wristbands can be bought starting at 4 p.m.

Woody Pines will perform at 9 p.m. today at the White Water Tavern. Admission is $6.

Pines, a Nashville troubadour, performs music that has been described as “down-home swing” or hillbilly boogie in the tradition of the pre-rock ’n’ roll Delmore Brothers. Pines was once in a jug band with Gil Landry, who went on to join Old Crow Medicine Show.

Pines has released five albums: Lonesome Shack Blues in 2007, Counting Alligators in 2010, You Gotta Roll in 2012, Rabbits Motel in 2013 and a self-titled CD in 2015.

A triple threat show called “Poguetry in Motion” will be held starting at 9 p.m. Friday, featuring Spider Stacy, a former member of The Pogues, who will be backed by The Lost Bayou Ramblers, a Cajun band from Louisiana. Opening the show will be Ben Nichols, the Little Rock native who is the lead singer of Memphis band Lucero. Admission is $20.

Stacy, who co-founded The Pogues, played with the band at the Voodoo Fest in New Orleans in 2009, and he and his wife decided to move there a year later. When The Wire, the New Orleans drama, used some of the music of The Pogues, it led to Stacy meeting members of The Lost Bayou Ramblers and deciding to work together.

Whiskey Myers will perform, along with opening act Stephen Neeper & the Wild Hearts, at 9 p.m. Friday at the Rev Room. Tickets are $16 in advance, $20 the day of the show.

The Keller Williams KWahtro will perform at 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $20 in advance, $22 the day of the show. Williams’ quartet — which he calls KWahtro — will feature guitarist Gibb Droll, bassist Danton Boller and drummer Rodney Holmes, plus singer-songwriter Williams on vocals and guitar.
