100 YEARS AGO Feb. 11, 1916
ARKADELPHIA — Owing to a crowded docket that has already extended the winter term of the Clark County Circuit Court beyond its ordinary length, the cases of Mrs. Claude Buck, indicted for plotting the death of Mrs. Ed Dickson, and Bert Whitted, charged with the murder of W. W. Perry, probably will be postponed until next September. Mrs. Buck, with her two small children, still is in jail, where she has been confined since she testified last week in the recent trial in which Ed Dickson was found guilty of murder in the first degree and given a life sentence. 50 YEARS AGO Feb. 11, 1966 Approximately 35 Jackson School patrons have joined forces in opposing sale of the school to private interests through an organization called “Save Jackson School.” In a meeting Wednesday at Pulaski Heights Bank, the organization designated John H. Haley of Little Rock to serve as its attorney. Sale of the school was approved by the Little Rock School Board Dec. 23 despite petitions containing about 100 signatures of parents in the Cardinal Heights subdivision opposed to the move.

More than ever, Arkansans are hauling newspapers, aluminum cans, glass and plastic to collection bins. But the effort is not enough. Recycling doesn’t happen until the trash is made into new products. Only a handful of Arkansas manufacturers are equipped to do that. The 125 or so Arkansas businesses that buy and sell recyclables often pay hefty prices to ship their trash out of state. The increase in household collections of recyclables has created a glut in the market; supply far exceeds the demand, and prices have plunged. 10 YEARS AGO Feb. 11, 2006 While employed with the Pine Bluff Police Department, Sgt. Kelvin Hadley made $6,112 in unauthorized fuel purchases from May 1, 2003, to Aug. 31, 2005, using two city-issued gasoline credit cards, according to an audit report released Friday. Those purchases prompted the Police Department in October to develop a new fuel log and fuel account. The interim police chief, Ricky Whitmore, took the corrective action even as an Arkansas State Police investigation of gasoline-card abuse within the department continued.
