–––––❖––––– ELOUISE LAVERNE CARNAHAN was born in Jonesboro, La., on March 31, 1928. She passed away in Little Rock on Feb. 23, 2016, at the age of 87.

Laverne was a bright light in this world. Known for her flair and fun personalit­y, she will always be remembered for dressing to the nines, head-totoe, in her own “Grammy Laverne” style. Her loved ones will never forget the unique gifts she always found for them for Holidays and birthdays. She loved to cook for her family and made the best fried cornbread in Arkansas.

–––––❖––––– SARAH GERALDINE “JERRIE” BUSH BRONS DERICKSON, 93, of North Little Rock, passed away quietly in her home on Feb. 20, 2016. She was born in Fort Hall, Idaho, on July 21, 1922 to Charles Edward and Emma Louise (Scott) Bush. As a child, she and her family moved to Oklahoma, where her father was a school principal and her mother a teacher at an Indian school. When the family moved to Arkansas, her mother opened a beauty shop in the basement of the State Capitol and Jerrie spent many hours helping her there. Following high school, she trained as a stenograph­er and worked as a secretary in the State Department of Education from which she retired many years later.

At age 25, Jerrie married Raymond J. Brons and they had one child, Janis, before he passed away. Later, she married John Derickson, a marriage that lasted over 61 years, during which they had two children, John Richard and Jenelle. Jerrie and John resided in the same home in North Little Rock and attended Lakewood United Methodist Church for over 47 years.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husbands, Jerrie is survived by her children, Janis Rae Radecki of Indio, Calif., John Richard Derickson of Little Rock, and Jenelle Louise Kelly of Missouri City, Texas; seven grandchild­ren, two great-grandchild­ren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 11:30 a.m. at Lakewood United Methodist Church, with visitation preceding the service, beginning at 11 a.m. A reception at the church will follow the service.

––––– ––––– EMMA DeMARIS LASTER EPPERSON, excellent conversati­onalist, loved mother and grandmothe­r and a great source of wisdom for her family, passed in her sleep on Feb. 24, 2016.

She was the daughter of Vera Derrick Laster and Thomas Laster. Wife to Thomas Frank Epperson and Howard Epperson. Part of her childhood was spent in Green River, Wyo., where her father was a coal miner and Vancouver, Wash., where her father worked in the shipyards.

She graduated from Bauxite High School in 1956 and proudly continued wearing her gold Senior Bauxite Miner ring throughout her life. As an excellent cook for her family, she will leave behind many recipes. Her country meal, lasagna, beef stew and Thanksgivi­ng dressing have brought much pleasure to her family members.

She worked at various insurance agencies during her career and as a pharmacy tech for Harvest Foods during retirement.

Surviving are her sons Steven Epperson and his wife, Ruth Ellen Epperson of Bryant and Jason Epperson of Mabelvale and four grandchild­ren, Meaghan Epperson, Lucas Epperson, Skylar Epperson and Allison Epperson. She is preceded in death by her son, Vincent Epperson.

The memorial service will be held at Forest Hills Funeral Home on Highway 5 in Alexander on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. The visitation will be held at Forest Hills Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Helms of Morristown, Tenn., and a grandson, Jason Cutler (Nandhu Puri) of Coimbatore, India; a sister, Charlene Berry, and a brother, Charles Durham, both of Wilburn.

She was born in Pangburn, the daughter of Charles R. (Roy) and Glady Durham. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, W.A. (Sonny) Farley Jr.; her parents, a sister, Lila Stulpin, and two brothers, Fred Durham and James Robert Durham. She and her husband lived for many years in Heber Springs where they operated two businesses. After they retired, they spent a few years traveling and eventually settled in Little Rock.

The family is grateful for the excellent care given to her by all the staff at Good Shepherd Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center for the past four and a half years.

–––––❖––––– J. CHARLES HENRY died February 25 in Little Rock, Ark. Born January 6, 1954, in Vallejo, Calif., to Betty Anne and Dr. J. Forrest Henry, Charles was a ’72 graduate of Hall High School and a ’76 graduate of Rhodes College (then Southweste­rn at Memphis). At Rhodes he met Sarah Rorie, his future wife. They shared nearly 36 years of love and adventure.

He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he also served his internship. He completed an ophthalmol­ogy residency at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and was accepted as a Glaucoma Fellow at the University of Pennsylvan­ia (Scheie Eye Institute) under the supervisio­n of Dr. Ted Krupin, a legendary figure in the field. He was board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmol­ogy.

Charles returned to Little Rock to join his father and Cliff Clifton in private practice at the Henry Eye Clinic

— subsequent­ly the Little Rock Eye Clinic. During his career the clinic became a statewide destinatio­n for comprehens­ive eye care. Known as an excellent glaucoma surgeon and researcher, he was a leader in the ophthalmic community.

In 1987, Charles was the first Arkansan elected to membership in the American Glaucoma Society. He has served as president of the Arkansas Ophthalmol­ogical Society and as chief of the Ophthalmol­ogy Section of Baptist Health. For two years he edited the glaucoma section of Focal Points, a publicatio­n of the American Academy of Ophthalmol­ogy. He was awarded the Distinguis­hed Service Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmol­ogy in recognitio­n of 10 years of presentati­on and service. He was also a member of the Visual Care Review Board (1987-2016), a consultant to the Arkansas Department of Human Services, a member of the Arkansas Board of Dispensing Opticians, and a community-based mentor for ophthalmol­ogy residents at the University of Arkansas Medical Center. He was active in several clinical research studies to advance treatment for glaucoma.

He completed medical teaching trips to countries such as Cuba, Peru, Sudan, and Uzbekistan. Closer to home, he loved getting to know his patients, and he had recently founded VISION, a juried art exhibition for local K-12 students. The winning artworks decorate the walls of the Little Rock Eye Clinic.

Charles was an avid beekeeper and woodworker. He was quick with a joke, eager to travel, and loved exploring new places, often while geocaching. He was known to throw milkweed seeds out of the car window to promote natural habitats for monarch butterflie­s.

Beyond all of his accomplish­ments, he will be remembered as a loving spouse and brother, and a wonderfull­y supportive father.

His siblings are Bob Henry (June) of Portland, Ore., Brad Henry (Cathy) of Fayettevil­le, and Elizabeth Henry Garland (Greg) of Little Rock. He is predecease­d by his parents and his sister, Lindsey Anne Henry. Charles was dearly devoted to his children and their spouses, Elizabeth Henry McKeever (Alison), William Henry (Kylie), and Robert Henry, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The visitation will be Monday, February 29 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, 501224-8300). The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, with interment at a future date. ––––– ––––– PATRICK ROBERT HUTTON, born September 12, 1980, passed away on February 24, 2016. Patrick was a graduate of Catholic High School for Boys, attended the University of Arkansas, and was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Patrick was known for his love of sports and was an avid golfer and soccer player. He loved the Arkansas Razorbacks. Patrick was known for his kindness to everyone, his helping hands, and he never met a stranger. He inherited his father’s talent for tackling building projects with enthusiasm.

Patrick was a devoted son, sonin-law, brother, father and husband. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Crystal Hutton, and beloved daughter, Mackenzie Hutton of Anna, Texas. He was the son of Terri and the late Richard Hutton of Little Rock, and brother to Pam (Michael) Irmen of Haskell, Ark.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1948, in Dallas, Texas; he was the son of George and Marjorie Kelley.

George was a musician for many years, and toured the Southeaste­rn U.S with local bands. He was also a Sergeant in the Army, serving in the Vietnam War.

Survivors include sister, Carole Kirby (Bob), and nephews, Shawn (Cyndi) and James Kirby.

–––––❖––––– HERBERT CHARLES (HERB) LEHMAN was born Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1925, in Elgin, Ill., and departed this life on Friday, Feb. 26, 2016, at the age of 91.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Spencer and Anna; a brother, Edward; a sister, Violet; a son, Timothy; and a granddaugh­ter, Cortney.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vivian; a daughter, Kathleen Griffis; a granddaugh­ter, Ashley Lehman; and a grandson, Darren Dahly (Cara); and three great-grandchild­ren: Donovan, Jace and Tadgh Herbert Dahly. Herb was a 60-plus years (2003) member of Crescent Lodge and a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, Eastern Star and a Rainbow Dad.

He was past-president of AARP Chapter 34.

He spent 39 months in the United States Marine Corp in WWII, serving in the United States and in the Pacific Theatre.

He was originally a profession­al musician (percussion) and attended the Metropolit­an School of Music and the University of Chicago. He later was a salesman in Arkansas and then a buyer for Muswick.

Herbert Lehman was baptized at Immanuel Baptist Church in Little Rock, where he was also a member.

–––––❖––––– MARY “TENNIE” JANELLE COLLIER LINKER, age 78, of North Little Rock, passed away Feb. 24, 2016, at Baptist Health Medical Center North Little Rock. She was born on May 16, 1937, in Centervill­e, Ark.; she was the daughter of Freddie Collier and Nell Mae Heffley.

Mary was a devoted wife of 51 years and loving mother. She was a member of Christian Assembly of God in Sherwood, and enjoyed cooking and taking care of and loving her children and grandchild­ren.

She was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 51 years; her mother, father and sister Tootsie.

Survivors include her six children: Lisa (Gary) Lopez of Booneville, Ark.; Robert Linker of Jacksonvil­le, Ark.; Leslie Grimes (Gary Slott) of Van Buren, Ark.; Denise (David) Guajardo of North Little Rock, Ark.; Kelly (Darin) Redus of North Little Rock, Ark.; Sonya (Randy) Pettit of North Little Rock, Ark. Her seven grandchild­ren: Denisha, Dylan, Madison, Amber, Austin, Nokona, and Keely. Her two sisters: Patsy Roush of Dardanelle, Ark. and Bobbie Douglass of Heber Springs, Ark. and her one brother Joe (Shirley) Collier of Sherwood, Ark. and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

––––– ––––– SERAPHINE (SALLY) M. PRUSS, 95, of North Little Rock passed away peacefully, Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016. She was affectiona­tely known as “Busia” by most who knew her. She was born Feb. 20, 1921, in Marche, Ark., to John and Anna Chudy and is preceded in death by her husband, August C. Pruss, her son, John Pruss and daughter-in-law, Peggy Pruss. Survivors include three sons, Floyd Pruss of Little Rock, Tony Pruss (Irene) and Mike Pruss (Theresa), both of North Little Rock; two daughters, Marilyn Pruss of North Little Rock and Kathy Piechocki of Marysville, Wash.; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Pruss and her sister Carolyn Dayer, both of North Little Rock; 10 grandchild­ren; 13 great-grandchild­ren; numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends and extended family.

She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Rosary Sodality.
