Addressing state consultants, some Little Rock School Board members said Monday that they are leery about what expanding the district’s boundaries would do to the school system’s finances and its cohesion. “We’d be picking up schools from a district that hasn’t given much financial support to its school facilities,” said School Board member Larry Berkley. “And we would be picking up a public that historically has not supported millage increases.” In the first of several meetings this week, consultants commissioned by the state Department of Education to study the feasibility of eliminating the Pulaski County Special School District and assigning its territory to other school systems assured board members they were still seeking information on what’s best for the welfare of local education.
