Vonn injured again

-

Lindsey Vonn was transported off the hill on a rescue sled after crashing in a women’s World Cup super-G on Saturday at Soldeu-El Tarter, Andorra, while Federica Brignone of Italy took the victory. The U.S. ski team had no immediate report on any injuries. Racing in difficult conditions due to snowfall, Vonn had led Brignone by 0.32 seconds when she came off the race line and failed to recover as she slid off course on her left hip. The race was interrupted for about 10 minutes as Vonn lay on the snow surrounded by medical staff and coaches. The U.S. ski team said Vonn “was taken off the mountain on a sled by ski patrol for evaluation. There is no immediate word on any injuries.” Vonn has won nine races this season after overcoming a hampered preparation. She missed the season opening in October after a 10-week layoff because of a broken ankle bone, a year after coming back from right knee injuries that kept her away from the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Pilot Won Yun-jong and brakeman Seo Young-woo gave South Korea its first overall bobsled World Cup title by winning the final race of the season Saturday at Koenigssee, Germany. The two-man title is the first in the sport for the host nation of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Beat Hefti of Switzerland with brakeman Alex Baumann was .05 seconds back while world champion Francesco Friedrich of Germany and partner Candy Bauer finished .15 seconds off the pace in third. Won topped the season standings with 1,562 points. Nico Walther of Germany was second at 1,450 and Latvia’s Ugis Zalims was third at 1,410.
