LR stabbing death leads to one arrest
A 32-year-old Little Rock man was arrested Saturday afternoon in a fatal stabbing that happened on Little Rock’s east side.
Quincy Hughes was being held on charges of capital murder in the death of Mark Hamby, 52, of Conway, according to county records. Hamby was found with a stab wound lying in the backyard of a boarded-up house at 1014 E. 10th St. just after 10 a.m. Saturday, police said.
A police report said Hughes had gotten into an argument with the victim, which led to the stabbing.
Hughes was arrested at 1:10 p.m. Saturday when North Little Rock police discovered him at the Sportsman’s Inn along East Broadway in North Little Rock, police spokesman Lt. Steven McClanahan said.
Hughes was found to have 2 grams of crack cocaine at the time of his arrest, a police report states. He is also being charged with one count of possession. He was being held in the Pulaski County jail Saturday.
Police also suspected Hughes of stealing Hamby’s red 2004 Chevrolet pickup, which was missing after the stabbing, McClanahan said. That vehicle has since been found, he said.
About 10 a.m. Saturday, of-
ficers went to the 10th Street house after Willie Gibson called the Little Rock Police Department and told dispatchers that he lived at the home and that an assault had just occurred there, a report said.
Gibson, 63, directed police to Hamby, whose torso was covered in blood, the report said. An officer at the scene reported that Hamby did not appear to be breathing.
Metropolitan Emergency Medical Services personnel performed CPR on Hamby and transported him to UAMS Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, according to the police report.
Police searched Gibson for weapons and took him to the 12th Street police substation for questioning. He was later released.
As Hamby was taken to the hospital, officers were interviewing possible witnesses, Officer Michelle Hill said. But neighbors did not seem to have seen anything, she said.
Police also listed a homeless woman with the first name of Kim as a possible suspect in the case. More information on her was not immediately available.
