IPFW 9-6, UALR 7-8

Hayden Martin went 4 for 4 in Saturday’s second game as UALR (2-4) split a doublehead­er with IPFW (5-2) at Gary Hogan Field in Little Rock.

The Trojans took a 3-0 lead after the first inning of the second game, but the Mastadons responded with two runs in the top of the second. UALR answered with a single run in the second and scored three in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. IPFW scored three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to cut the lead to 7-6, but UALR added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth.

Nik Gifford was 2 for 5 for UALR in the second game, while Cameron Knight was 2 for 4. Brock Logan was 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI to lead IPFW, while Brandon Soat was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.

UALR led 4-0 after three innings in the first game, but IPFW scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game. The Mastadons added two more runs in the seventh and got a three-run home run from Evan Van-Sumeren in the ninth to earn the victory. Soat was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI for IPFW, while Kendall Whitman was 3 for 5 with 4 RBI. Ryan Scott and Zach Baker both went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI each for UALR.
