McTelvin Agim
OUTSTANDING PLAYER: FOOTBALL
I’m goingg g to take it with pridep and be acceptantp and be humbled by it. You don’t get those types of achievements by doing the basics. You’ve got to go beyond the basics and try to be great in every aspect of life — academically, and also in the football aspect of it.”
WHY HE WON
At 6- 3 and 268 pounds, McTelvin Agim is a defensive force with which to be reckoned. However, it’s not just his size and athleticism that have the players on the offensive side of the ball cowering. It’s also his work ethic and his drive to be the best. Agim made a huge impact on the field his senior season at Hope High School, recording 72 1/ 2 tackles, including 26 for a loss, and 14 sacks. Agim emerged as a star high school recruit at Hope High School and was ultimately ranked by ESPN. com as the No. 9 overall recruit for his class and the No. 2 defensive end. Although it was an impressive achievement to be looked at so closely by so many top schools such as Arkansas, the school he ultimately chose, Agim said he wasn’t ready to settle. “It felt good, but I felt like I was the best, honestly,” he said. “I felt like the work I put in and the journey I took to get to this point was the most difficult and the most honest of any recruit in this class, so I felt like I was the best. The No. 9 and everything was nice, but I felt like I was the best. I kind of took it with a grain of salt.” Agim’s older sister, Dominecia Giddens, said she is proud to see him put in the work in the classroom as well, graduating with a 3.8 grade- point average. “Seeing that number just makes me so happy,” she said.
