Rangers score three runs in 10th to stun Athletics

AMERICAN LEAGUE RANGERS 5, ATHLETICS 4 (10)

ARLINGTON, Texas — Rougned Odor was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning, forcing home the winning run as the AL-best Texas Rangers beat the Oakland Athletics 5-4 on Tuesday night.

Carlos Beltran had tied the game with his fourth hit, a two-run single, after John Axford (4-4) had walked the bases loaded. Marc Rzepczynsk­i then came on and the A’s opted to intentiona­lly walk Adrian Beltre, reloading the bases with one out. Odor was hit in the shoulder on the next pitch.

Oakland had tied the game in the ninth off closer Sam Dyson, then took a 4-2 lead in the 10th when five of its first six batters reached against Keone Kela (4-1). Yonder Alonso had an RBI double and scored on Ryon Healy’s single for the A’s.

Beltran, the switch-hitter acquired two weeks ago from the New York Yankees, also had an RBI double.

The A’s lost their fourth consecutiv­e, dropping a season-high 16 games under .500. At 52-68, they are 18½ games behind Texas in the AL West.

Dyson struck out the side in the ninth, but also gave up three hits and a run for his fourth blown save in 31 chances. The A’s had been 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position be- fore Danny Valencia’s two-out RBI single tied the game at 2.

RED SOX 5, ORIOLES 3 Mookie Betts homered twice and drove in five runs, helping visiting Boston beat Baltimore for its fifth consecutiv­e victory. Betts hit a three-run drive in the fifth inning and added a tiebreakin­g two-run shot in the seventh.

BLUE JAYS 12, YANKEES 6 Russell Martin homered twice, including a go-ahead shot in an eight-run eighth inning, and Troy Tulowitzki had four hits as Toronto erased a six-run deficit to beat host New York.

INDIANS 3, WHITE SOX 1 Corey Kluber allowed one run in six innings to win his fourth consecutiv­e start, and host Cleveland beat Chicago for the seventh consecutiv­e time.

ROYALS 6, TIGERS 1 Danny Duffy allowed one run in 72/3 innings and visiting Kansas City hit four home runs. Raul Mondesi, Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer all homered off Justin Verlander (12-7), while Kendrys Morales went deep off Mark Lowe.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

CUBS 4-4, BREWERS 0-1 Jason Hammel threw seven innings of two-hit ball, Anthony Rizzo jumped onto a wall to make a remarkable catch of a foul ball and host Chicago beat banged-up Milwaukee 4-1 to sweep a day-night doublehead­er. Javier Baez hit a two-run home run while Hammel (13-5) struck out seven to extend his scoreless streak to 22 innings. In the opener, Trevor Cahill (2-3) came off the disabled list to throw five innings of two-hit ball in his first start in nearly 16 months in the Cubs’ 4-0 victory.

DODGERS 15, PHILLIES 5 Chase Utley got curtain calls after each of his two home runs — including a grand slam — in his first game in Philadelph­ia since last season’s trade to Los Angeles. Those cheers came after fans greeted him with a 1½-minute ovation before he struck out leading off a rout of the Phillies.

REDS 6, MARLINS 3 Tucker Barnhart’s first career grand slam capped host Cincinnati’s fiverun first inning, giving Anthony DeSclafani all the support he needed to beat his former team.

INTERLEAGU­E CARDINALS 8, ASTROS 5 Tommy Pham and Jedd Gyorko each homered to help visiting St. Louis beat Houston. The Cardinals roughed up Astros ace and former Arkansas Razorback Dallas Keuchel (7-12) to overcome a rocky outing from starter Jaime Garcia (10-8). Garcia gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 5 innings, including 3 home runs. RAYS 15, PADRES 1 Brad Miller hit two of host Tampa Bay’s five home runs in a rout. Rookie Blake Snell (4-5) struck out 8 in 5 innings, giving up 1 run, 5 hits and 4 walks.

TWINS 4, BRAVES 2 Ervin Santana scattered four hits over seven scoreless innings, Joe Mauer homered and visiting Minnesota beat Atlanta.
