He was a 1963 graduate of Newport High School and the University of Arkansas in 1967, pledging Kappa Sigma fraternity. Jim was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant. He began his business career in Little Rock as an insurance adjuster with Travelers for ten years, followed by thirty-seven years with Rebsamen Insurance (Regions) as a VP of Commercial Lines. Jim loved his son, Jason, and the two spent many a summer on road trips to Busch Stadium for St. Louis Cardinals baseball games. Jason was his pride and joy. His special granddaughter, Nadia, was his delight, and she affectionately called him “Bobo.” They spent time together playing dolls, fishing, seeing the sights around Little Rock and enjoying each other’s company. Jim also enjoyed travels out West with his cousin, David Hare, visiting all the places he wanted to see; cruises to Alaska, the Bahamas and the Mediterranean with his wife, Sissy; a trip with friends to Augusta National Golf Tournament, underscoring his love of the game; and weekends spent with lovely friends at Brosh Farm and the lake. He remained a loyal Razorback fan and supporter his entire life.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sissy Polk Jowers; son, Jason, and fiancée, Melissa Bradshaw, and special granddaughter, Nadia, all of Vilonia; his sister, Carol Walker of Heber Springs; and many nieces and nephews.
