Four more apply for ASU chancellor; 14 in ring

Four more people have applied to be the next chancellor at Arkansas State University at Jonesboro.

The four applicants join the 10 candidates who have applied since Arkansas State University System President Chuck Welch and a 21-member-appointed search committee started the search on Feb. 14. All the candidates are vying to replace interim Chancellor Doug Whitlock, who was appointed to his $305,000-a-year post after the former chancellor resigned just before the fall semester began.

Tim Hudson — the former chancellor — left his post, which paid $360,000 annually, without a severance package in August after several internal audits and one state audit uncovered nepotism and conflicts of interest. Whitlock has agreed to serve through June 30, but his contract can be extended on a month-bymonth basis.

Candidates must apply by April 17 for priority consideration, but the search will continue until the position is filled. Welch has said he would like finalists to visit the campus in May and that he hoped the winning candidate would begin in July.

The four new candidates are:

Roger Achkar, former professor of international relations at the Universities in Lebanon.

Anthony Koyzis, director of academic programs at the University of Nicosia Global in Cyprus.

Soren Kirchner, CEO of American Global Management Association, a membership organization company.

Kumara Jayasuriya, provost and vice president for academic affairs at West Virginia State University.
