SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla. — Dr. Robert Ernest Hix passed away Feb. 9, 2017 on Sanibel Island, Fla. where he had retired. Born in Batesville, Arkansas on Feb. 18, 1939 to the late Walter E. Hix and Marie Stewart Hix.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Robert Sparks Hix and daughter-in-law, Dr. Paige Hix of Fayettevil­le, Ark.; a daughter, Jennifer Stewart Harris Hix of London, England; and a step-son, Jason Harris Gosnell of Navarre, Fla. He is also survived by his grandchild­ren, Justin Lassonde Hix, Austin Sparks Hix, Adam Townsend Hix, Jennings Paige Hix all of Fayettevil­le, and Gage Hix of El Dorado. He is preceded in death by a son, John Robert Hix, and by a brother William Stewart Hix. Former spouse, Nancy Harris also survives him.

After graduating from Arkansas State University, Dr. Hix earned a Master of Science degree from the University of Arkansas and his Medical degree from the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, where he also completed his Internship and Residency in Psychiatry ( 1970-72). He also served in the elite U.S. Army Rangers in South Korea 196264. Dr. Hix practiced Psychiatry in Arkansas, Missouri, and five additional states and will be remembered as a dedicated and beloved doctor by all who knew him.
