BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. — George T. Mayes, 97, much loved Arkansas native, Navy Veteran, and retired locomotive engineer, passed away peacefully in Bullhead City, Ariz. on 2/ 21/ 17. He worked for the Long Island Railroad, and was a 50 year Mason of the Iron Springs Lodge # 342. He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Kent- Walker and grandson, Douglas Kent.

––––– – –––– HORSESHOE BAY, Texas — Etta Sue Murphy Frantz Trimble, 87, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, went to Heaven to be with our Lord on February 23, 2017 at home surrounded by her family in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. She was born on January 11, 1930 in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was always a loving woman with great faith. Etta Sue enjoyed marching as a majorette in the high school and college bands. After attending Southern Arkansas University, she worked at Lion Oil. Etta Sue was also the pianist at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in El Dorado, Arkansas. She was financial controller of the family business, The Frantz Co., in Houston, Texas, for 30 years. Etta Sue had a passion for flying, was a private pilot, and a longtime member and president of the Houston Chapter of the 99’ s ladies pilots associatio­n.

Etta Sue was preceded in death by her parents Fred Ballard Murphy and Marjorie Yocum Murphy and her husband of 47 years, Dr. Joseph Foster Frantz. She is survived by her husband of two years, John D. Trimble of El Dorado, Arkansas; her children, Marjorie Frantz Ferguson & her husband, Tim, of Greenville, South Carolina, Joseph Foster Frantz II & his wife Tricia, of Horseshoe Bay and Susan Frantz Brassard & her husband, Joe, of The Woodlands, Texas; nine grandchild­ren, Nicole Frantz Smith and her husband Bryan, T. J. Ferguson and his wife Rebecca, Danielle Frantz, Grace Ferguson, Austin Brassard, Joseph Brassard, Bailey Brassard, Camille Ferguson and Brady Ferguson; a great- granddaugh­ter, Sarah Smith; her brother, Rev Bruce Murphy and his wife June, of El Dorado, Arkansas; and many adored nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will begin with viewing at 12: 30 pm and Church Service at 1 p. m. on Saturday, March 4, 2017, in the Church at Horseshoe Bay , 600 Hi Ridge, Horseshoe Bay, Texas, 78657 with the Rev. Johnny White officiatin­g. Interment to follow at the Lakeland Hills Memorial Park, 4219 Park Rd. 4, Burnet, Texas under the direction of Clements- Wilcox Funeral Home, 1805 Hwy. 281 N, Marble Falls, Texas 78654 ( 830) 693- 4373. ––––– – –––– LIVINGSTON, Texas — Lena Ola Dunagan McCulley, 85, of Livingston, Texas passed away February 26, 2017. Funeral service will be February 28, 2017, 10 a. m. at Southside Church of God in Mena. Interment in Westview Cemetery in Cove, Arkansas under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

––––– – –––– NEW WAVERLY, Texas — Shirley Jacqueline Swaim Stancil was born March 3, 1929 and had an amazing life until her death on February 25, 2017. Shirley was very proud of her career in education. She was a counselor at Central High School during the crisis of integratio­n. She was one of the few who were fired by the segregatio­nist school board for supporting integratio­n. But then rehired by the court system. She was an associate superinten­dent in charge of pupil personal in the Little Rock Public School District. She retired from the Arkansas State Department of Education as an associate commission­er in charge of human resources.

In her childhood years, she served as Governor’s page during her father’s legislate sessions. Shirley was raised in Saint Paul in the Ozarks. She received her B. S. from ASU, her Masters from U of A, and received her specialist degree from Harvard. Shirley had a passion for health and nutrition. She spent many hours reading the most current research. She was years before her time on living a clean healthy life style. One of her favorite pieces of advice was, “Take care of yourself.”

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lennie and Curtis Swaim, and her brother, Dr. Terry Swaim and his wife Maggie. She is survived by her brother and his wife of Los Cruises, New Mexico, Jerry and Margaret Swaim, her son, Hal Kendal Stancil, her daughter and son- in- law, Susan and Randy Koonce of New Waverly, Texas. There are three granddaugh­ters; Sally Cooksey and her husband, Sean Cooksey of Bossier City, Louisiana, Genilyn Koonce of New Waverly, Texas, Leslie Skelton and her husband Greg of Rogers, Arkansas. Her great grandchild­ren are Cash and Kinley Glaze and Caleb Skelton.

Shirley had many good friends because she was a very good friend. The family would like to acknowledg­e special friendship­s with June Walker and Jon and Pricilla Youngblood.
