Accidents kill 4 Arkansans, Missouri man

At least five people died in separate traffic accidents since the weekend, authoritie­s said.

A 39- year- old Arkansas man died after his vehicle hit a bridge and landed in a creek Tuesday morning, Arkansas State Police said.

Charles Strozier of Waldron was driving a 1997 GMC west on Arkansas 378 in Scott County shortly after 9 a. m. when the vehicle left the road on its eastbound shoulder, hitting a bridge, according to a preliminar­y crash report. The vehicle came to a rest in Rock Creek, police said.

Conditions were reported as cloudy and the roads were dry at the time of the wreck.

A wreck involving two tractor- trailers killed one man and left another injured in Logan County on Monday afternoon, police said.

Darin Lee Moeller, 45, of Sarcoxie, Mo., was driving a 2016 Freightlin­er north on Arkansas 23 around 4: 30 p. m. when he approached an intersecti­on with Arkansas 22 in Caulksvill­e, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Moeller pulled into the intersecti­on and the truck collided with a 2002 Peterbilt heading west on Arkansas 22, causing the Freightlin­er’s trailer to flip over, officials said. Moeller suffered fatal injuries in the wreck, police said.

The Peterbilt’s driver, 48- year- old Bobby Eugene Bonds of Charleston, was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith for treatment.

Conditions were reported as cloudy and dry at the time of the accident.

An Arkansas woman was killed Monday afternoon in a head- on collision with a tractortra­iler on a U. S. highway in Ashley County, police said.

Jena Christine Hester, 38, of Montrose was driving a 2001 Lincoln east on U. S. 82 near Ashley County Road 121 outside Hamburg around 1 p. m., according to an Arkansas State Police report. The Lincoln crossed the center of the highway and collided head- on with a 2000 Freightlin­er heading west, officials said.

Hester suffered fatal injuries. No one else was reported injured in the wreck.

The weather was rainy and the roads were wet at the time of the collision, officials said.

A second teenager has died after a wreck Saturday in Pine Bluff.

Napoleon Strong, 18, died Sunday afternoon, the Pine Bluff Police Department said Tuesday.

Strong was one of five teens hospitaliz­ed with injuries from the single- vehicle crash that happened about 2: 15 a. m. Saturday in the 4400 block of South Olive Street.

Police say a 2010 Mercury had been traveling at a high rate of speed when it veered out of control, flipping multiple times and ejecting a 14- year- old female passenger. She died at the scene.

There was no word Tuesday on the conditions of the other occupants of the car: the 17- year- old driver and a 17- year- old boy, a 13- year- old girl and a 15- year- old girl.

The injured teens were taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.

A 71- year- old Marianna man died Sunday when his pickup ran off a state highway and overturned, authoritie­s said.

It happened about 7: 20 a. m. as William Harris Jr. of Marianna was driving a 2002 Ford F- 150 north on Arkansas 78 in Lee County, according to an Arkansas State Police report released Tuesday.

The pickup veered off the highway near Lee County Road 157, ran into a ditch and overturned, police said.

Harris suffered fatal injuries.

The report didn’t specify what may have caused the vehicle to leave the highway. Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.
