HSU sweeps doublehead­er

Henderson State University (18-9, 12-5 Great American Conference) used strong pitching performanc­es to sweep a doublehead­er from East Central (Okla.) University 7-3 and 2-0 at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphi­a.

Luke Tebbets (5-1) allowed 7 hits with 7 strikeouts in a complete game for HSU, which got a two-run home run from Jordan Taylor in the seventh inning to win the first game. Bryant Haralson (5-2) also threw a complete game in the second game, allowing 2 hits with 8 strikeouts while running his streak of scoreless innings to 30.

In other GAC action Saturday, Mark Vaughn had three hits and Kyle Wilson (4-0) turned in six strong innings for Arkansas Tech University (17-11, 13-3 GAC) in a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma Baptist University (1511, 9-7 GAC) in Russellvil­le. … Brady Weiss hit a three-run home run to right field for the University of Arkansas at Monticello (17-11, 13-5 GAC) in the first game of a doublehead­er against Southweste­rn Oklahoma State (10-17, 6-10 GAC) in Weatherfor­d, Okla. The Boll Weevils won the first game 11-5, but lost the second game 8-1. … Jakari Howell had a home run and two RBI for Ouachita Baptist University (8-20, 5-11 GAC) in a 10-5 loss to Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State (6-17-1, 5-9 GAC) in Arkadelphi­a. … Luke Van Dover had a two-run home run, and Austin Allen pitched seven solid innings to give Harding University (9-17, 7-9 GAC) a 6-3 victory over Southern Nazarene University (2-25, 2-14 GAC) at Jerry Moore Field in Searcy.
