Harding sets conference record with victory
Harding University (29-3, 19-1 Great American Conference) won both ends of Saturday’s doubleheader against Southern Nazarene University (8-24, 4-16 GAC) in Bethany, Okla., 6-2 and 17-5 in 5 innings, setting a new Great American Conference record with its 21st consecutive victory. The previous record was 19 consecutive victories, which was set by Arkansas Tech last season.
The Bisons used a four-run fifth inning to take control of the first game and a six-run second inning to control the second game. Peyton Mills went 4 for 4 in the second game with 4 runs scored, setting a school record for most runs scored in a single game by a player. Mills had a three-run home run to center field in the second inning, Alexus Lawellin singled in two runs and Amanda Berry knocked in another.
In other GAC action Saturday, the University of Arkansas at Monticello (18-10, 11-5 GAC) used a three-run home run by Maranda Clendenin in the first game and a two-run home run from Korie Parker in the second game to sweep a doubleheader from Southwestern Oklahoma State 11-1 and 7-2. … Daniella Brantley had a two-run double, a home run and four RBI for Ouachita Baptist University (12-18, 6-12 GAC) in a doubleheader split with Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Tigers won the first game 5-3 but lost the second game 4-3. … Ashley Landry had five combined hits for Arkansas Tech University (20-12, 14-6 GAC) in a doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee, Okla., but the Golden Suns lost both games, losing 2-1 in 10 innings in the first game and 7-6 in the second game.
