Hypnosis Will Change Your Life, Whether It Be Weight Loss, Stop Smoking Or Some Other Issue. Hypnosis Is The Answer

Q. What is Hypnosis and how does it work?

A. Even in the educated world of today, the word hypnosis still brings forth feelings of fear and apprehension to many people. They still think a hypnotist can control them or make them tell their innermost personal secrets. Others believe that when they’re in the hypnotic state, they’re uncon - scious and not aware of what’s happen - ing around them. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Generally speaking these misconcep - tions are based on Hollywood films or what other people who are ignorant concerning the hypnotic process have told them. When an individual is in the hypnotic state, physically they are deeply relaxed but metally they’re hundreds of times more alert than when in their normal state of awareness. Their ability to hear what’s going on around them is greatly improved. They’re aware of everything and are active par - ticipants in the hypnotic process. It’s impossible to force a suggestion on any - body that they don’t want to have or they they may feel uncomfortable with. Such a suggestion would be instantly rejected and would have no aff ect on them. Clients are always in control. No suggestion can enter the subconscous mind without them actively supporting and helping to get that suggestion there. If the suggestion is wanted and bene - ficial, it is allowed to enter the subcon - scious mind. Now, the subconscious mind is similar to a computer and must respond to the information placed into it. All of us are what our subconscious minds perceive jus to be. This deep part of us develops its perceptions of who we are based on our everyday experiences in life. If our subconscious mind perceives us to be fat, we become fat. If it perceives us to be a smoker, we smoke. And so on with many other issues and challenges in all areas of our lives. The suggestions received while in hypnosis, if accepted by the individual, will change the subconscious perception of the particular issue being addressed. For example, when an overweight person’s perception at the subconscious level is changed to one of being slim, and trim, that’s the way the person becomes... automatically!! If a smoker’s perception at the subconscious level is changed to one of being a non- smoker, he becomes a non- smoker... instantly! The secret to success with hypnosis is simply this; the client must honestly want the change to occur. If the client is being pressured by family members, doctors or others and doesn’t honestly want the change for themselves, they will reject the suggestions and change will not happen. I am merely a guide for the client. If a client wants and accepts my guidance, we then work together as a team to achieve the subconscious perception change necessary for your goal to become a reality. Hypnotism not only works well to stop smoking and to lose weight, but is extremely eff ective in eliminating pho - bias, memory and concentration, insom - nia, motivation, stress reduction, sales improvement, test anxiety, sports improvement, pain management and just about any issue or challenge you may have in your daily life. Even the American Medical Association has approved hypnosis as a very valuable tool. So now that you’re ready to make the changes you’ve put off for so long, call my offi ce and lets work together to get you back on track. become a nonsmoker or a non- dipper. Health Tips for Men

Q. As a male approaching 40 who would like to get healthier, are there specifi c health tips for men that I should know that can help improve my quality of life as I get older?

A. It’s smart that you are thinking proactively about your health. While there are overall health tips that work for anyone, men do have their own health needs. Make sure you have a doctor you are comfortable with and then make sure you go see him/ her. We all know that men can put off going to the doctor and don’t like talking about their issues. Change that. Take time to research physicians and commit to at least annual appointments/ physicals. Also, don’t neglect your mental health. Instead of clamming up and trying to push through a period of depression or anxiety on your own, do your health a favor and talk it out with someone. Vary your workouts. Try to do a mix of aerobic activities, muscle training and stretching. Try to incorporate kegel exercises. The humble kegel is a simple exercise that strengthens the pelvic fl oor muscles to support the bladder and bowel. Vary your diet as well. Worry less about counting calories and more about eating a balanced diet. Calories alone are actually a poor picture of overall health, especially for active men who burn a lot of energy. Watch your weight, especially around your mid- section. Visceral fat, or fat that collects around your middle, is the most deadly fat form around, and is linked to countless health problems including type 2 diabetes. For both men and women, it’s always important to remember to get plenty of sleep ( at least seven hours) and drink plenty of water. Dr. Edwin Diaz, M. D. TMJ Braces

Q. Dear Dr. Jolley I have just finished treatment with another Dentist here in Little Rock who advertises as a “TMJ Dentist.” I have been through his treatment and been wearing two appliances for over 7 months. My symptoms of Headache, Neck Pain and Pain in my TMJ joints are no better. In fact they are worse ! I can hardly function! I’m tired and worn out, I live in constant pain and am just exhausted. I’m tired of living in chronic pain! Now, this Dentist wants to put me in “Braces” as a “Phase II” treatment. He says the Braces will “probably” make me feel better.” He calls this treatment “TMJ Braces”. My question is this: Since I’m not any better, do you think it is wise that I proceed with Braces on my teeth, will that fi x my problem?

A. Dear Charlene, first of all, I’m very sorry that after going through treatment that you are no better. Just because someone calls himself a “TMJ Dentist”, doesn’t mean he has the credentials or training necessary to treat complicated TMJ problems. But... if you are no better, it makes absolutely no sense to go into Orthodontics... I would absolutely not advise that! In our offi ce, rarely do we have to do a Phase II treatment… less than 5 % of the patients we treat. But we never go to a Phase II treatment, unless all the patient’s symptoms have disappeared. Our treatment protocol involves decompression of the TMJ joints, which reduces the pressure on the nerves within the TMJ joint ( these nerves serve the head and neck) and relieves the tension in the muscles involved in mastication ( chewing of food). Once we reposition the condyles back into a normal alignment and reestablish proper muscle function you can expect to be pain free! I truly don’t mean this statement to be “self- serving, but far too often, in our offi ce, we see patients who have been treated by Dentists who are well meaning and well intentioned, but just are not properly trained, nor do they have the proper equipment to make an accurate diagnosis that is necessary for a proper treatment protocol. I know you don’t want to hear this, but it sounds as if you may have to start over. I’m sorry that you’ve wasted time and money on an ineffective treatment. But if you’ve been in treatment for over 7 months and are no better, then obviously something is not right. Our treatment protocol rarely exceeds 3 months. We have cutting edge technology specifi cally designed for the diagnosis and treatment of TMJ. I assure you; we can make a proper diagnosis and develop a treatment regimen that will help you. Don’t lose hope; we can help. I hope you will call our offi ce and make an appointment. “Life is too short to live in pain.” Roy Jolley D. D. S. Help! My Face Has Fallen, and...

Q. Dr. Garner, I so enjoy your articles and have actually clipped a few over the years. Until recently, I did not think that I had the money to get a smile makeover, but my mother passed away not long ago, and I have my inheritance. I’ve always had very soft teeth. Both my parents got dentures when they were in their 40s because their teeth wore down to nubs, and back in those days, they just pulled everything out and got dentures. They were always embarrassed by their false teeth. My teeth have done the same thing. I’m 64, and my smile is straight across. My face has fallen! On the bottom front teeth, my dentist says that about a third of the teeth has worn down to the nerve area. My teeth are very sensitive, and I know I’m in danger. My dentist says he’s not experienced in big projects like mine, so he wants me to see you ASAP. He says I must have a total rebuild to save my teeth. My gums are very healthy BTW. Of course, my smileis yellow and ugly. I want a gorgeous new smile with white teeth. I’m fi t, but my teeth are not! I want to avoid root canals too as my dentist says more are on their way if I don’t get with it. When might you be able to examine my mouth? I’m ready!

A.

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. I’m sure she’d be pleased to know that she was making it possible for you to be healthy and happy by avoiding the pain and embarrassment of dentures. Give us a call immediately, and we will get you right in. Most full- mouth reconstruction smile makeovers take just two visits spaced about a week apart. My guess is that you will have a beautiful smile way before the end of summer. Not only will your smile be perfect, but your teeth will be saved, healthy and strong like never before. Thanks again for contacting me. We look forward to seeing you very soon. Shaping the Nose With or Without Surgery

Q. I have always disliked the shape of my nose. Can you tell me a little bit of what’s involved?

A. Absolutely. Your nose is the most prominent feature on your face, second only to your eyes. Its size and shape may be the most defining characteristic of your face. If you are unhappy with your nose, you’re not alone. Every year, hundreds of thousands of people throughout the United States elect to improve the appearance and/ or function of their noses through nose surgery or rhinoplasty. Some people want a diff erent size or shape. Others wish to repair damage caused by an injury, and some just want to breathe easier. Rhinoplasty is the reshaping of the nose. It can be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes three hours to perform, although a complicated procedure may take longer. Most incisions are made inside the nose, where they are invisible. The skin and tissues of the nose along with the underlying bone and cartilage are sculpted to your desired new shape. Patients usually go back to work after the splint is removed 5- 7 days after surgery. Full recovery is around four weeks. Many students have the surgery in the summer to allow plenty healing time. If your nose is too large, cartilage may be sculpt away to reduce its size. Noses that point up or droop down can be redirected by trimming the septum which divides the two nasal passages. Skin can be removed from both sides of the nostrils at the center, to narrow the base of the nose. Sometimes the contour can be improved by adding tissue. If you are wanting some correction without surgery, you may be a candidate for specifi c fi llers to soften the appearance of a bump on your nose.
