Mrs. MARY JANE BURNS (FREEMAN) died peacefully on 10-8-17 in Little Rock, Ark. at 88.

Mary is survived by her granddaugh­ter, Brandi M. Davison (Charles A. Smith); grandson, Matthew A. Faver; great-grandchild­ren, Brooklyn, Brianna, Britton and Brylee-Ann; and great-great-grandson, Jayloun, all of LR, Ark. She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd A. Burns and her daughter, Sherry L. Burns-Faver of LR, Ark.

Mary was born on 2-17-1929 in Vanndale, Ark. to Benjamine Lee “Benny” Diles and Beulah B. Diles. She was married to Floyd A. Burns for 56 years.

Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on 10-11-17 at Griffin and Leggett at 5800 W. 12th, LR, Ark. 72204. A graveside funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. on 10-1217 at Roselawn Memorial Park at 2801 Asher Ave., 72204. Minister Charles A. Smith will officiate the ceremony. She was born

April 3, 1922 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Jesse and Helen Armstrong.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas

E. Farris, Jr.; her parents; and sisters, Lucille Gunsaulis, Marguerite Whitten and Jeanette Battisto. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Farris (David Martin); son, Douglas Farris; granddaugh­ters, Tommie Lynn

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 29 years, Pam Ellis of Little Rock; four children: Heather Bradley and husband Teddy of Little Rock, Amber Ison and husband Mark of North Little Rock, Christy Bromley and husband David of Sheridan, Arkansas, and Billy Ellis of Harrison, Arkansas; 11 grandchild­ren: Dalton, Jett, Tru, Gabe, Ava, Aaron, Brent, Clayton, Bobbie, Dakota, and Eddie Ellis, Jr.; six great-grandchild­ren; sister, Ann Bearden; two brothers, Jackie King and wife Mona, and Eddie Ellis; and a host of family and friends who love William and will miss him always.

55. She grew up in Little Rock, the daughter of Dr. Wayne B.

Johanna leaves behind her husband of 25 years, J. Price Gillenwate­r, II and two beloved children whom she adored, John P. Gillenwate­r, III and Georgia Glenn Gillenwate­r; her older sister, Melissa Templeton Glenn of Oregon and her younger sister, Leah Ann Glenn and her husband, Lance Mattson of Arizona. She loved Melissa’s three daughters, Hannah, Leah and Eliza Bodenhamer and Leah’s daughter, Elena Mattson and her only nephew, Adam Mattson.

Johanna swam competitiv­ely for the YWCA and excelled in the butterfly, setting a state record as a girl. She continued to swim throughout her lifetime. She attended public schools for primary and secondary education and was graduated from Little Rock Central High (a third generation Tiger).

Johanna’s undergradu­ate education included one year at the U of A Fayettevil­le and three years at Rhodes College Memphis, where she completed the requiremen­ts for a B.A. in Foreign Languages (Spanish and French). She continued her studies at the graduate level, obtaining an M.S. in Communicat­ive Disorders from UALR/ UAMSC in 1991 and her Doctorate in Audiology from the U of Florida Gainesvill­e (2013-2014). Johanna completed her requiremen­ts for her doctorate online while battling Stage 4 Lung Cancer. She arranged her surgeries and chemothera­py treatments to avoid conflicts with her AuD course tests and presentati­ons. She told no one at the University of Florida of her burdens and completed her Doctorate right on schedule.

She traveled extensivel­y during her lifetime, studying Spanish in Madrid during a semester abroad while in college and after graduation she returned to Madrid to teach English. She traveled throughout Europe, made multiple trips to Costa Rica, Mexico and the Caribbean with her family. While her husband was on active duty as a pilot in the US Navy, she lived in four states. In 2003, Johanna was thrilled to return home to Little Rock to raise her children near their grandparen­ts. Johanna made her final adventure on a trip to Italy with her children in August 2017.

Profession­ally, Johanna practiced audiology at the Russellvil­le ENT Clinic, followed by the ENT Northwest Clinic in Washington State and finally Arkansas Children’s Hospital until her death. She saw four patients in one morning only a week before she died. She saw many Hispanic patients and loved her work as a bilingual pediatric audiologis­t. She was a superb Audiologis­t and cared so deeply about all her patients. She was loving and passionate in helping those in need. Her Spanish speaking patients were so appreciati­ve of her extraordin­ary efforts to calm them and guide them through a very intimidati­ng environmen­t. She also taught Spanish for a number of years at Pulaski Heights Elementary School and the Child Enrichment Center.

A longtime member of Second Presbyteri­an Church, Johanna volunteere­d with the Children’s Choir, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Johanna’s Christian faith was unwavering throughout her lifetime and helped her through so many rough times in the recent past. She also loved her time as a Cub Scout leader and led a Girl Scout troop for five years. She loved needlepoin­ting and trips to the lake house with her family. Johanna loved nature and being outdoors, creating beautiful gardens in various states in which she lived. Johanna especially loved her walks with her beloved Weimaraner, Velvet.

Johanna was a courageous woman whose loving spirit lives on in all the people she knew. She gave so much of herself in helping others and her wonderful sense of humor and positive outlook on life were infectious.

A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyteri­an Church in Little Rock, Arkansas on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Heifer Internatio­nal. Special thanks go to Dr. Joe Beck and his team of nurses and office staff who loved Johanna through her almost five year battle with cancer. –––––❖––––– NONA D. GREENFIELD died October 7, 2017 in Little Rock. She was born October 6, 1934 in Stuttgart, Arkansas. She was a graduate of State College of Arkansas (now UCA), and worked for

District as an Elementary School Teacher for 23 years.

On July 22, 1955, Nona married Roy “Buddy” Greenfield. Nona met her father-in-law, Gene Greenfield, before she met her husband as she was in a minor vehicle collision with Gene Greenfield. Later, she met Roy “Buddy” Greenfield and was shocked when she met his parents realizing his father was the gentleman that she had rear ended. After 45 years of marriage, Buddy preceded Nona in death on September 27, 2000.

Nona resided 35 years in the same home in North Little Rock, AR and 17 years same home in Sherwood, Arkansas. She was a member Lakewood United Methodist Church and was an avid golf fan, and enjoyed reading and working crosswords puzzles (worked them in ink), loved to travel and spend time with family and friends at her lake home on Greers Ferry Lake.

Nona felt she had been fortunate in life; therefore, gave back to many charities and organizati­ons, which include Lakewood United Methodist Church, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, Little Rock Compassion Center, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Union Rescue Mission, Arkansas Food Bank, Wounded Warrior Project and many others. Nona was a tiny woman, but a very strong woman with a passionate will for living, one example was when Nona snow skied for the first time at age 60.

Survivors include her children; Stephen Greenfield, Sandra Guthrie and Pamela Thompson (David); grandchild­ren, Adam Guthrie, Sean Guthrie, Kyle Guthrie, Trevor Thompson and Megan Thompson; great-grandchild­ren, Avery Thompson and Reece Guthrie; siblings, June Kossover, R.L. Dumond, Mike Dumond and JoAnn Gourley and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 13, 2017 at Forest Hills Cemetery,10200 Hwy. 5, Alexander, Arkansas with Rev. Luke Conway officiatin­g. Ralph was a business man in

Gravel Ridge for almost 50 years.

He and his partner, Gil Cunningham, first began in the grocery store business. They then transition­ed into the used car business and ultimately expanded into the tractor business. In addition, managed multiple real estate properties. Ralph served his country in the Air Force Reserves. He also served his community and was Chairman of the Board for the Gravel Ridge Fire Department for over 25 years. As a member of the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ, he served as deacon with an emphasis in visitation. For the past eight years, he has been an active member at the Somers Avenue Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy L. Stewart of Searcy, Ark.; his business partner, brother-in-law and life-long friend, Gil Cunningham; and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Stewart; sons, Stephen Stewart and his wife Heather, Tim Stewart and his wife Brittaney; grandchild­ren, Carson, Jackson, Anderson, Bethany, and Madison; sistersin-law, Wanda Stewart, Carolyn Cunningham, and Betty Hall; brother-in-law, Bobby Hall; nieces who were like daughters, Kimberly Oglesby and Kristen Rodgers; and nephews, Jim and Ted Stewart.

2017. She departed this world at home surrounded by family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. Elizabeth never met a stranger. She loved her church, gospel music, gardening and cooking favorite dishes for her family.

She leaves behind her husband, John Stone; eleven children: Sheila Adams, Frank Ferriel, Travis Hunter, Bobby Ferriel, Bruce Walker, Kevin Stone, Greg Stone, Sheila Stone, John Michael Stone, Rachel Craven, Joanne Yarbrough; siblings: Steve Stedman and Lee Ann Stedman of Bethesda, Md.; grandchild­ren: Wayne and Dallas Penn, Alicia, Rachel and Tosha Ferriel, Brook Ashley Haynes, Breanna Yarber, Andrew Messer, Travis Jr., Abigail, Susie, Elizabeth, Jonah, Zac and Stormy Hunter, Damon Howard; many more nieces, nephews, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. She is preceded in death by one son, George Ferriel, and her parents, Robert Raley and Agnes Russell.
