Acting upon the complaint of residents in the West End, near the city limits, that two youthful burglars had been operating in that vicinity, the police and the sheriff’s departments hurried to the neighborhood, where they found the pair in the custody of a citizens’ committee. Police say they have confessed to several burglaries. They are J. W. Blevins, aged 13, and his brother, Sam Blevins, 16. The boys were seen yesterday by a woman, who ran to the grocery store of John W. Call, 4397 West Twelfth Street, and gave the alarm.
50 YEARS AGO Oct. 12, 1967
Bobby Gene Edwards pleaded guilty to a burglary charge Tuesday in Circuit Court and received a sentence of five years that was suspended on recommendation of the state. Circuit Judge William J. Kirby revoked suspension of three five-year sentences that Floyd Cooper, 22, had received March 22 on felony bad check charges and ordered Cooper to serve the terms concurrently for violating probation. The violation was in connection with two new bad check charges filed against Cooper.

Little Rock Municipal Judge Marion Humphrey donned his robe on his day off Sunday shortly after the Rev. W. N. Otwell and 26 followers were arrested during their weekly protest at Gov. Bill Clinton’s church. Twenty-four adults were jailed Sunday night, including one preacher who allegedly resisted arrest and another man who allegedly blocked a police car at Immanuel Baptist Church. Three juveniles were arrested and released on citations to an adult Otwell follower even though they refused to sign appearance bonds, police said.

CONWAY — A man accused of murdering his estranged wife moments after she obtained a court order of protection on him probably will change his plea to innocent by reason of insanity, an attorney said Thursday. Stephen McCoy, 39, of Conway originally entered an innocent plea shortly after his arrest in the April 2006 shooting of Betty McCoy, 37, outside Church’s Chicken on Oak Street in downtown Conway. Stephen McCoy is charged with capital murder, and the prosecution has said it will seek the death penalty if he is convicted.
