With more than 16 years of experience, Penny Collins Choate, owner of Choate Law Firm, PLLC, in Searcy, provides legal counsel to the residents of White County and the surrounding areas.
Choate began her law career in 2001, practicing at the Davidson Law Firm in Little Rock. While there, she gained experience with trial practice in state and federal court. Previously, she had a background in real estate, business and political science, which made the decision to practice law an easy one, she said.
In 2004, she opened Choate Law Firm, PLLC, in Little Rock and later moved her practice to Searcy in 2007.
“It’s a community that is diverse, so we have a lot of retired individuals in this community,” she said. “We have a lot of young people and we have a student population. I love to be able to work with that diverse group of people as clients.”
Choate said that practicing in the same community in which she grew up has also been rewarding because she’s able to help friends and neighbors with their legal needs. She said she has even had some of her former teachers become estate-planning clients.
Choate has a staff of five women at her office, including Tasha Terry, associate attorney, three other full-time employees and an intern from Harding University.
As a business owner, Choate said it is very important for her to set an example for women and girls who are interested in the practice of law.
“Unless they can experience seeing a woman in that role, it is sometimes difficult to envision a particular career path,” she said.
