SHERI CARPENTER ESTES, 76, of Sherwood passed away November 15, 2017.

She was born in Pocahontas,

Ark., to the late

Hershel and

Pauline Pratt.

She attended

Sylvan Hills First

Baptist Church, was an elementary teacher at Oakbrook Elementary School, a longtime resident in Sherwood and she grew up in Pocahontas, Ark. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Frances Pratt; sister, Jenice Murphy, niece, Dana Murphy and her late husband, Robert F. Carpenter.

Sheri is survived by her husband, Glen Estes; two sons, Robert and Brent Carpenter; daughterin- law, Elizabeth Carpenter; three grandsons, David, Christian and Malcolm Carpenter; two great- granddaugh­ters, Haley and Mia; and two step great- grandchild­ren, Zoey and Dillan Ary. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m., Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. A visitation will be from 6 to 8 p. m., Friday, November 17 at the funeral home. ––––– – –––– LINDA GARNER RIGGS, 70, of Little Rock, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2017. Linda grew up in Fordyce, Ark., and after finishing high school in Camden, Ark., worked full time while obtaining Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Arkansas at Fayettevil­le.

Her career included almost 10 years in Arkansas State Government which included Director of the Research and Committee staff of the Arkansas Legislatur­e, Legislativ­e and Budgetary Director for Arkansas Governor Frank White and Arkansas Insurance Commission­er. After leaving state government she joined Stephens Inc. Investment Banking Firm in Corporate Finance and was a Managing Director when she retired in 2010 after 25 years with the firm.

She loved symphony music, theater, gardens, reading and travel. She was a member of the Arkansas Symphony Board.

Linda is survived by her husband, Dr. Lamar Williamson Riggs; one sister, Marilyn Williams and her husband, Frank; one brother, Ben Garner and his wife, Sharon; two nieces, Deana Stock and her husband, Frank and their son, Tucker and Janet Krueger and her husband, Billy and their sons, Will and Nathan; two nephews, Jeremy Garner and his wife, Brandy and their daughter, Ella and B G Garner; and her caregiver and loving friend, Malise ( Mo) Perrilliat. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Helen Derryberry Garner and B G Garner.

There will be a memorial service at First United Methodist Church on Sunday, November 19 at 2 p. m. ––––– – –––– BERNICE TOLAND, 99, of Sherwood, stepped into heaven on November 15,

2017. She was born October 6,

1918 to Bill and

Eunice Tullos in

Ashley County, the oldest of nine children.

After the flood of 1927, the family moved to higher ground in Hamburg. She graduated from Fountain Hill High School and later completed a business degree at State Teachers College in Conway.

During WWII, she worked at the Jacksonvil­le Ordnance Plant. She married Sam Toland on August 2, 1944. They were married for 32 years.

After becoming a stay- athome mom in 1945, she later became a substitute teacher in the North Little Rock School District. She spent many years as a bookkeeper for the Vestal family in the floral business, eventually retiring for the accounting department of the Little Rock School District.

She joined Baring Cross Church in 1954. She taught Sunday School and served faithfully in various ministries. She especially loved working with the ladies in the Senior Ladies Class and traveling with the XYZ. She is preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and four brothers.

She is survived by her son, Tommy Toland ( Carol) of North Little Rock; two grandchild­ren, Ginger Toland Holcomb ( Clifford) and Bryan Toland ( Jennifer) of Sherwood; two great grandchild­ren, John Holcomb of Sherwood and Kay Holcomb Comer ( Joshua) of Berryville and one greatgreat granddaugh­ter, Kaylyn Comer of Berryville; a brother, Willie Tullos of Anchorage, Alaska, and a host of other relatives and friends.

We would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Sherwood Nursing and Rehab for their loving care of our Mother over the last two years.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1 p. m. at Baring Cross Baptist Church, followed by a celebratio­n of Bernice’s life at 2 p. m. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Arkansas Memorial Gardens, Hwy 161 in North Little Rock.
