FORT SMITH — The Sebastian County Labor Federation at a convention here today adopted a resolution declining to stay the general strike of all organized crafts in this city, as requested by Governor Brough. The resolution adds, however, that any assistance the governor may offer will be cheerfully received. This action was taken after Attorney J.O. Johnson, member of the legislature from this county, announced to the convention that he had been in communication with the governor and that the governor had requested him to ask for a suspension of the strike for a week or 10 days.

Dec. 10, 1967 Governor Rockefeller said Saturday that he hoped the matter of the reported assassination plot against him would quiet down. “There’s no need of wasting your time any more asking questions about this until Colonel [Lynn A.] Davis, [the state police director] is ready to make a report to me,” the governor said at a news conference he called at the Mansion on his return from the Republican Governors conference at Palm Beach, Fla.

Howard Curtis Reed, a Little Rock economist, has become the first black member of the Country Club of Little Rock, a private club criticized this year for not having black members. Reed was sponsored for membership by Walter E. Hussman Jr., Arkansas Democrat-Gazette publisher. “Howard has been accepted as a member,” Hussman said. “He is a fine fellow. I’m glad he expressed interest, and I’m glad he is now a member of the club.”

A Little Rock man was found shot to death in his house in southwest Little Rock on Sunday, police said. A friend found the body of 24-year-old Theodis Givens III in the living room of the house at 7714 Nolen Drive at 6:42 a.m., police spokesman Lt. Terry Hastings said. Givens lived at the address with his girlfriend, who was not believed to be involved in the shooting, Hastings said. It was unclear when the shooting occurred. An officer had been in the vicinity about 5:45 a.m. to investigate a report of gunfire, but didn’t find anything, Hastings said.
