John spent 53 years in the pharmaceutical industry as a medical sales representative for Proctor & Gamble, Merz, and ultimately, in his so called “retirement” with US Compounding. Often referred to as “The Godfather of Pharmaceutical Sales” and “The Legend”, he won multiple national sales awards. However, the highlight of his career is the John C Schratz Dedication Award given annually and established to honor his selfless dedication and invaluable impact on the growth and success of US Compounding. He loved what he did and was great at it.

John’s love of music and travel was passed down to his children and grandchildren. His love of music developed early on, listening to his father, Bruce, play boogie woogie, ragtime, blues and jazz on the piano. Due to his heritage, he had a keen interest in German culture and enjoyed his trips abroad nearly as much as the coast-to-coast family camping trips. John was a jokester. Never tiring from his one-liners, he simply refused to let the fact that he had told you a joke before prevent him from telling it a third or fourth time.

Rosary service for John C Schratz will be held Thursday, December 28, at 7 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4000 N Rodney Parham Rd., Little Rock. Funeral Mass will be at Christ the King Catholic Church on Friday, December 29, at 10 a.m.

–––––❖––––– ROGERS — Julian Charles Stewart completed his journey on earth on December 25, 2017 surrounded by loved ones. Fittingly for this Christian man, he was received in Heaven by his

Lord and Savior on the day we celebrate His birth.

Julian was born in Fayetteville, Ark., on April 26, 1934, the oldest of four sons of Elizabeth and Charles Stewart. Julian grew up in Fayetteville, attending Leverett Elementary and Fayetteville High School. He graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Unique to Julian was the interesting fact that he walked to school every year, from kindergarten until his graduation from the university.

While at the university, Julian met the love of his life, Nana Bachtel. Other than his Christian faith, he most greatly cherished his marriage to Nana, which lasted almost 60 years, along with their two children, James and Elizabeth, and their families.

Julian served three years in the United States Air Force followed by a corporate career with United Gas Corporation and IBM Corporation. After early retirement from IBM in 1987, he worked as a consultant for Cullen/Frost Bankers in San Antonio for five years. Since 1992, he has been an active participant and investor in oil and gas production and real estate development projects.

Julian valued and prioritized volunteerism. Julian was involved with numerous community, state and national organizations. He has always been active in his church, and over a 60-year span served as deacon, Sunday School director and teacher, and also led or served on numerous committees. He also participated in a variety of mission trips and other Christian ministry activities.

Julian was actively involved with the American Heart Association, Junior Achievement, Baptist Health System and United Way. He was an extremely active volunteer at his alma mater, the University of Arkansas, serving on various committees and fundraising activities.

Some of Julian’s proudest accomplishments were his service to the University of Arkansas Campaign for the 21st Century; chairing the University of Arkansas’ Board of Advisors; chairing of the University of Arkansas Foundation; serving as Chairman of Baptist Health System in San Antonio; his election as honorary Life Deacon at his church, Trinity Baptist Church; his election as an Honorary Life Board Member of the American Heart Association of Texas; his induction into the Fayetteville High School Hall of Honor; his recognition as Volunteer of the Year at the University of Arkansas; receiving the University of Arkansas Andrew Lucas Alumni Service Award; and his induction into the University of Arkansas Engineering Hall of Fame.

Julian worked hard in order to achieve a college education. He delivered milk to the Sigmu Nu house, hoping for a free meal, made ice cream at Collier’s Drug Store and began his sales career, selling ugly ties to willing patrons at Price Patton. A byproduct of this hard work was Julian’s recognition of the importance of giving back to students.

In 2003 Julian and Nana established the Julian and Nana Bachtel Stewart Honors Fellowships and in 2009 they created the Julian and Nana Stewart Access Arkansas Scholarship for the benefit of students, university-wide. Blessed with the ability to continue giving, in 2013 they made a significant contribution to the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas, with a portion establishing the Julian C. and Nana B. Stewart AACE Access Arkansas Scholarship to provide need-based scholarships within the college. Last month, Julian and Nana held their semi-annual luncheon with their students. He loved getting to know each of them.

Julian was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio. Other memberships included the San Antonio Country Club, the Pinnacle Country Club, the University of Arkansas Chancellor’s Society, the University of Arkansas Towers of Old Main, the Razorback Foundation, the University of Arkansas College of Engineering Advisory Council, Heritage Society, Sigma Nu Fraternity, life member of the Arkansas Alumni Association, and the Arkansas Academy of Civil Engineering.

Julian was preceded in death by his parents and his three younger brothers Jerry, Bill and Phillip. He is survived by his loving wife, Nana Bachtel Stewart; his son, James Bachtel Stewart and wife Sheri; his daughter Elizabeth Stewart Plummer and husband Charlie; his two grandsons, Julian Taylor Plummer and Jordan Alexander Stewart. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephew, Shannon, Shelly, Susan and Gregg.

A celebration of Julian’s life will take place on Thursday, December 28 at 2 p.m. at Chapel on the Creeks, 5202 West Village Parkway, Rogers, Ark. 72758 with Pastor Les Hollon officiating. Following the service, a reception honoring Julian will take place at Pinnacle Country Club. This will be followed by a private graveside service in El Dorado, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be given to the University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc., Julian C. and Nana B.
