Fraternity’s Black and White Scholarship Ball raises money for scholarships, program for boys
The dapper, cane-carrying men of the Little Rock Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity — aka the Kappas — held their Black and White Scholarship Ball on Dec. 16 in the ballroom of the Four Points by Sheraton Midtown in Little Rock. Among the special guests were Theron Hightower, Southwestern Province polemarch (president), and representatives of other area area chapters of “Divine Nine” (predominantly black) fraternities and sororities.
During a short program, committee members Dieterick Govan, Harold Williams, Troy Ellison and Walter Simpson were recognized and received tokens of appreciation.
The ball was a fundraiser for the chapter’s Kappa League, a program aimed at area boys ages 13-17 and focusing on teamwork, leadership, healthy living, financial awareness, community service and self-awareness. A slide show displayed the group’s participation in activities that included Victory Over Violence, Dress for Success, Family Promise, Watershed, Susan Komen Race for the Cure and aid to Hurricane Harvey survivors.
Guests were treated to a sit-down dinner and had the opportunity to get their photos made before a logo-ed backdrop and dance to the music spun by DJ Jonathan J. Nunn of Klassic Entertainment.
The Kappas’ Little Rock Alumni Chapter is led by polemarch Antonio Mosby.
