Cathy Plafcan RETIRED TEACHER WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT CARLISLE?

The way the town looks with the flags up and down [North Court Avenue]. It’s wonderful. It’s very impressive. … We have some beautiful potted plants all downtown and throughout the area that are taken care of by the town. I am a big, big advocate for the library. We have a fantastic, clean, friendly library. They have all kinds of neat programs for adults throughout the year. All year long, they have neat stuff for the kids, and in the summer, of course, a reading program.

WHERE DO YOU GO FOR FUN IN LONOKE COUNTY?

I enjoy going down to Keo. I think it’s enjoyable to go to Charlotte’s Eats & Sweets. That’s a good little adventure. I’ve had some friends from out of town I’ve taken there; then we drive on over to All Souls Church in Scott. If you’ve not been down there, it’s picturesque to see. It’s all among the trees, and it’s very small. It’s quite lovely.

WHERE WOULD YOU TAKE A FIRST-TIME VISITOR IN CARLISLE?

I think Nick’s Bar-B-Q is terrific. Both of my two daughters worked there, and it was such a great job and taught them a lot of things — meeting the public — and I’m a big advocate of your children working. It’s kind of a well-known place, since it’s been around since 1972. … When you go in there, you can get a taste of the town.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST HOPE FOR CARLISLE’S FUTURE?

I’m proud of how they keep everything so clean, especially in the downtown area. I’d like to have a couple more places of business there and fill up the empty buildings. There have been two or three things that have happened in the past year, so it’s getting better all the while. And then pie in the sky — like everyone else, I’d like to have a community center or a fitness place.
