Underwater photos
“Los demonios de mi tierra” (“Demons of This Land”), 20 underwater photographs by Mexican artist Mauricio Silerio exploring traditional Mexican legends, goes on display Wednesday in the Maners/Pappas Gallery in the Fine Arts Building, University of Arkansas at Little Rock, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. The exhibition, a partnership with the Consulate of Mexico in Little Rock, will be up through Sept. 20. Admission is free. Jazz in the Park
Jazz in the Park returns, 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays through Sept. 26 at the History Pavilion, just west of the First Security Amphitheater in Little Rock’s Riverfront Park, 400 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. (Closest park entry point to the pavilion is from Ottenheimer Drive off of Clinton Avenue.)

Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome, and there is some seating in the natural stone amphitheater at the History Pavilion. No coolers are allowed; beer, wine, soft drinks and water will be sold, along with Jazz in the Park koozies (a portion of koozie sales benefit Art Porter Music Education Inc.’s scholarship fund).
Sir Porter Prize winner
Tyrone Jaeger, author of the story collection So Many True Believers and the novella The Runaway Note, is the recipient of the $2,000 2018 Porter Fund Literary Prize. An award ceremony, 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 in the Darragh Center, Central Arkansas Library System at the Main Library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock, will honor him and the winner of the Booker Worthen Literary Prize. Admission is free.
Novelist Jack Butler and novelist and lawyer Phil McMath founded the Porter Prize in 1984 to honor Ben Kimpel, an English professor at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and named it at Kimpel’s request in honor of Kimpel’s mother, Gladys Crane Kimpel Porter. The annual prize has gone to 34 Arkansas poets, novelists, nonfiction writers and playwrights with a substantial and impressive body of work. Past winners include Mara Leveritt, Morris Arnold, Kevin Brockmeier and current Poet Laureate of Arkansas, Jo McDougall.
