TODAY UCA exhibition­s

Two exhibition­s go on display with a reception — 4-7 p.m. today — in Baum Gallery, McCastlain Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway:

“Peter Pincus: Color and Form” includes ceramics by Pincus, a faculty member at the School for American Crafts. Pincus will participat­e in a roundtable discussion that Baum Gallery Director Brian Young will moderate at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 19 in McCastlain Hall’s Lecture Hall No. 143. He’ll give a lecture about his process, 1:40 p.m. Sept. 20 in the same venue. And he’ll hold a two-day workshop, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 19-20, in the Ceramics Studio in UCA’s Schichtl Hall. Admission is free.

“Artistic Processes: Drawings and More,” featuring preparator­y work across several media — including printing, sculpture, illustrati­on, a poster, a banner and ceramics — by artists Pincus, Abe Blashko, David Bailin, Morton Brown, Charles Burchfield, Kevin Cole, Louis Freund, Tony Hepburn, Fannie Hillsmith, E.B. Lewis, Bryan Massey, Jennifer Rospert, Louis Schanker and Ben Shahn.

Young will give a lecture titled “The Spark of Creation: Drawings and Process,” 1:40 p.m. Sept. 6 in McCastlain Lecture Hall No. 143.

FRIDAY Taking a Stand

Growing racial divisions in early 19th-century New Orleans are the focus of The House That Will Not Stand by Marcus Gardley, 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Sept. 7-8 and 13-15 and 2:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Weekend Theater, 1001 W. Art/wine workshop

Hot Springs artist Dee Garret presents an acrylic painting workshop titled “Art and Wine” for beginner-level artists, 6-8:30 p.m. Friday at Garvan Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge Road, Hot Springs. Participan­ts will create and keep an 8-by-10-inch finished piece on canvas. All materials will be provided. Participan­ts must be 21 years of age or older. SATURDAY Junk Fest

Van Buren’s Town Merchants Associatio­n will hold its annual Labor Day Weekend Downtown Junk Fest, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday on Main Street, between at Third and Eighth streets, Van Buren. More than 80 vendors will offer vintage, salvaged, reclaimed and repurposed items, antiques, boutique merchandis­e, old clothing and more.

The festival also includes food and drink from food trucks and area restaurant­s; entertainm­ent, including performanc­es on Stage 9 (inside Blanche Moore Park on Main Street) by Christian singer Brittany Morse and Larry B and the Cradle Rockers; a Vintage Car and Tractor Show around the Historic Crawford County Courthouse; a farmers market and splash pad in Freedom Park; and an excursion train.
