Hon­ored alum­nus slain in Maumelle

A 60-year-old Maumelle man was shot and killed Fri­day, just two days af­ter he was rec­og­nized as an out­stand­ing alum­nus of his col­lege, au­thor­i­ties said.

At 4:49 a.m., Maumelle po­lice of­fi­cers re­ceived a call about shots fired in the area of Kingspark Drive, ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port. Of­fi­cers re­ported find­ing Jerry Stuart dead in his drive­way with mul­ti­ple wounds.

Just two days be­fore his death, Stuart was an­nounced as the 2018 out­stand­ing alum­nus of the year from Henderson State Uni­ver­sity’s Black Alumni As­so­ci­a­tion, ac­cord­ing a post on the uni­ver­sity’s Face­book page. Two out­stand­ing black alumni are cho­sen each year and rec­og­nized dur­ing home­com­ing, ac­cord­ing to the uni­ver­sity’s web­site.

There was a ban­quet or­ga­nized to rec­og­nize his award sched­uled for Oct. 19, ac­cord­ing to a Face­book post from the Black Alumni chap­ter.

Kingspark Drive is a sub­di­vi­sion in north Maumelle near Odom Boule­vard. Ac­cord­ing to Ar­kan­sas prop­erty records, Stuart and his wife have lived at 63 Kingspark Drive for more than 20 years af­ter they pur­chased the home in May 1997.
