Tim Burton film is part of Freeform’s ‘31 Nights of Halloween’

Halloween is fast approachin­g, and Freeform’s “31 Nights of Halloween” continues with programmin­g that includes witches, dinosaurs, monsters and other creepy creatures. It started Oct. 1 and runs through the 31st, ending with a Hocus Pocus marathon beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Halloween. Hocus Pocus, which airs at other times throughout the month, is celebratin­g its 25th anniversar­y this year. It stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Sarah and Mary, who die in 1693 Salem, Mass., but are resurrecte­d in 1993. They plot to suck out the souls of all of Salem’s children and chaos ensues.

Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas marks its 25th anniversar­y Oct. 29. It also airs throughout the rest of the month, and specifical­ly at 2:20 p.m. today. The 1993 stop-motion animated musical fantasy tells the story of Jack Skellingto­n, a resident as well as the king of “Halloween Town.” He stumbles through a portal to “Christmas Town” and decides to celebrate the holiday, with some dastardly and comical consequenc­es. The principal voice cast includes Danny Elfman, who wrote the songs and the score, and provides the singing voice of Jack; Chris Sarandon; Catherine O’Hara; and Paul Reubens.

Other movies airing this week include: Maleficent; The Witches of Eastwick; Monster House; Hotel Transylvan­ia; Haunted Mansion; Dark Shadows; The Addams Family; ParaNorman; Dark Shadows; The Goonies; Monsters, Inc.; and Monsters University.
