Spooky scenes will spread as costume-clad kids ask for candy during one of the most popular holidays of the year, Oct. 31.

Halloween is known for its sweets and scares, and communities across the coverage area have organized events to help promote the fun while keeping people safe.

In Heber Springs, City Councilwoman Kasey Griffin is helping organize Heber Springs After Dark in the Park, which will take place Saturday.

“This is going to be our third year,” Griffin said. “We start with a zombie walk, and we parade down Main Street to Spring Park.”

The parade — or zombie walk — will line up at 4 p.m. at Harps and start its prowl at 5 p.m.

“I’m hoping the parade will be bigger this year,” Griffin said.

Griffin said After Dark in the Park will also include a costume contest at 5:30 p.m., free hot dogs for kids, trunk-or-treat and games.

Two main goals for After Dark in the Park are safety and free community fun, Griffin said.

“We wanted to do something for the community that’s free,” Griffin said of herself and the other organizers. “The kids can walk down the sidewalk safely for trunk-or-treat.”
