Healthfirst: Women’s Health Event BATESVILLE — White River Medical Center and First Community Bank will present a free community event, Healthfirst: Women’s Health Event, from 4-7 p.m. at the Batesville Community & Aquatics Center. The evening will focus on how preventative health care can help women live longer and healthier lives and will feature screening booths, education, free gifts, door prizes, a Red Couch tour, a Mega Brain tour and more.

American Legion Post 71 Meeting CABOT — Criswell-Robinson American Legion Post 71 will meet at 7 p.m. at the post, 114 N. First St. A pre-meeting meal will be served at 6 p.m. All members and spouses are welcome to attend. All ladies may join the Auxiliary, daughters can join the Junior Auxiliary, and there is a group for sons of veterans. There is also a Legion Riders Chapter for veterans who are motorcycle riders, and STARS, a ham-radio group. Ozark Woodland Owners Association Fall Meeting BATESVILLE — The Ozark Woodland Owners Association will have its fall meeting at 6 p.m. at the Independence County Cooperative Extension Conference Room, 1770 Meyers St. All OWOA members, local forest landowners and forestry professionals are invited to attend. The guest speakers will be Kyle Cunningham, University of Arkansas Co-op extension forester, and Clayton Knighten, conservation lands strategy manager, the Nature Conservancy.

Genealogy Program: Arkansas Research BATESVILLE — The Independence County Library, 267 E. Main St., will offer a genealogy session at noon in the second-floor meeting room of the library. Guest speaker Lynda Suffridge will present Arkansas Research. Attendees are asked to park in the back lot of the library or on Main Street and enter the building through the back door. Yard and Bake Sale CABOT — Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, 4100 Arkansas 89 S., will have a yard sale and bake sale, including fried pies, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will fund mission projects for the Cabot Police Department, Open Arms Shelter, Safe Haven and other organizations throughout the year. Ladies’ Day BEEDEVILLE — The ladies of the Beedeville Church of Christ will host their 25th Ladies’ Day on Saturday. Activities will begin at 9 a.m. and end with a luncheon. Medical Center and The Bank of Cave City will present the 11th annual Highway to Health 5K at 5 p.m. at White River Medical Center, 1710 Harrison St. Registration will be from 4-5 p.m. Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for students, or $25 the day of the race. Finisher’s medals and awards for divisions will be given, and drawings will be held for a variety of prizes. Proceeds from the race will benefit the food pantries/food efforts of local schools. Feed the Veterans CABOT — The Feed the Veterans food pantry, 214 Rainbow Drive, is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the third Saturday of each month. The pantry, which lets veterans shop for the items and amounts they need, serves military veterans, their spouses and children younger than 18. Retirees, guardsmen and reservists are welcome. The only requirement is proof of military service — a DD-214 or a Veterans Affairs Health Care card or military ID. Classes in Mountain View will meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and
classes in Mammoth Spring will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Instruction is available in math, writing skills, reading comprehension and refresher skills for college prep, the military or employability. An instructor is available for one-on-one assistance. Fun and Safe Halloween BATESVILLE — Main Street Batesville will offer its Fun and Safe Halloween event for spooky fun from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 31. The public is invited to stroll the residential and business areas of Main Street as residents and merchants pass out candy. Side streets will be blocked off, allowing little ones to meander in safety. Children are encouraged to wear costumes. Harry Potter Halloween Party BATESVILLE — The Independence County Library, 267 E. Main St., will host a Harry Potter-themed Halloween party for teens ages 13 to 19 from 3-6 p.m. Oct. 31. Boots, Bands & BBQ Fundraiser SALEM — The Fulton County Hospital Foundation will host its second family-friendly Boots, Bands, & BBQ fundraiser Nov. 3 in the Salem Civic Center at the Fulton County Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 5 p.m. Recording artist Bonnie Montgomery will take the stage at 6 p.m., followed by Chuck Young and Friends at 7 p.m. Other activities include a silent auction, dancing and concessions with barbecue, burgers and fixins. Event attire is country-western and weekend casual. Tickets, which will be sold at the door, are $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12. Children ages 5 and younger will be admitted free. Sponsorships ranging from $50 to $2,500 are also available. Proceeds from the event will fund the Fulton County Hospital’s communications switch system. Delta Symphony Orchestra Concert BATESVILLE — The Delta Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Neale Bartee, will present a concert of classical music at 3 p.m. Nov. 4 at Sloan Auditorium in Brown Chapel at Lyon College. The concert will include Albinoni’s Concerto for Two Oboes and Strings, featuring Dan Ross and Katie Bowden, soloists. There will be a pre-concert talk at 2:15 p.m. in the Bevens Music Room, adjoining the auditorium. Admission is free, and donations are welcome.
