All-weather fans call the Hawgs for developmentally disabled Arkansans.
Fundraiser for Arkansas Enterprises fun for everyone
The Arkansas Razorbacks football team may have its problems this season, but that didn’t hurt the Razorbacks-theme Hawgs for a Cause, the annual fundraiser for Arkansas Enterprises for the Developmentally Disabled (AEDD).
A record crowd of about 300 came out to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Hawgs, held Oct. 18 at the agency’s facility on Roosevelt Road in Little Rock. The AEDD Auxiliary hosted the event, presented by Centennial Bank.
Formerly held in a small room in the building, the sponsor’s reception that began the evening took place outside in the parking lot, next to the giant red Razorback-shaped “Big Frank” grill that customarily brings the evening’s barbecue goodies. Red-clad guests nibbled on hors d’oeuvres from RX Catering while sipping signature “Hawgtinis.”
They went inside to bid on silent-auction items, which once again bore a predominant University of Arkansas mascot theme, and participate in a wine/liquor/cigar pull and raffle.
Later, all attendees came together for the inside main event, featuring barbecue with all the trimmings. Music was provided throughout the evening by the Marchese Hendricks Project Band. Slide-show images of past Hawgs events and other agency activities were shown.
KTHV anchor Rob Evans was master of ceremonies for a program highlighted by the presentation of the 2018 Champions for a Cause award, which went to accounting firm Little Shaneyfelt Marshall & Co.
Another highlight: the reappearance of KTHV’s Craig O’Neill, who emerged from his retirement as master of ceremonies for charitable events to share some humor and lead guests in calling the Hogs. A special appeal and a live auction rounded out the night.
