Lady Rebels ready to get back to postseason play

- BY MARK BUFFALO STAFF WRITER

The Sacred Heart Lady Rebels hope for big improvements this year after a 12-23 season a year ago. “The Lady Rebels want to be playing in the state tournament this season,” coach Kyle Duvall said. “They understand the task and challenges ahead of them and look forward to continuing to grow as a team.” The Lady Rebels return two starters from a year ago. They are junior guard Madeline Bottoms, who shot over 40 percent from the field a year ago, and senior guard Jenna Chadek, who shot over 35 percent from the 3-point range. The best inside players are sophomore center Sydney Briggler and sophomore forward Anna Lee Maos. “They are going to be asked to fill a position that lacks depth,” Duvall said. “Sydney will bring toughness to the team and can be a back-to-the-basket post player. Anna Lee has a great shot and can ht the midrange jump shot and will be a key piece to the Lady Rebels this season.” The best outside players, Duvall said, are Bottoms, Chadek, sophomore Lizzy Beck and sophomore McKenzie Greeson. “Lizzy will be asked to be the point guard and control the offense,” Duvall said. “She can handle the ball and sees the floor well. McKenzie is a great overall player. She is a great defensive player, a hard worker, can shoot the ball anywhere on the floor and is looked upon as a leader for the Lady Rebels.” “We’re continuing to improve daily and want to be in the state tournament this season,” Duvall said.
