Country singer Buddy Jewell headlines third annual “Heroes and Legends,” honoring veterans and active military, with the Pinkston Middle School 6th Grade Choir, 6:30 p.m. today at the Vada Sheid Community Developmen­t Center, Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, 1600 S. Little Rock-based bluegrass band Runaway Planet performs for 2nd Friday Art Night, 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Old State House Museum, 300 W. Markham St., Little Rock. “More or Less: Liz Smith & Katherine Strause,” ceramics by Smith, paintings by Strause, and “Face to Face: Contempora­ry Portraits,” pairings of otherwise unrelated portraits by Louis Freund, John Harlan Norris and Lisa Krannichfe­ld, among others, go on display with a 2nd Friday Art Night reception, 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Historic Arkansas Museum, 200 E. Third St., Little Rock. The reception will feature music by Springfiel­d, Mo., ensemble the Creek Rocks and compliment­ary appetizers and beverages, including Core Brewing Co. beer, will be available in the atrium. Both exhibits will remain on display through Feb. 3; gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission to the galleries and reception and parking are free. SUNDAY ‘State of Disaster’

Rex Nelson, writer, speaker, raconteur and senior editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, will lecture on “A State of Disaster,” an overview of the history of Arkansas, 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Old State House. After the program, Nelson and Arkansas authors Ben Johnson, Kelly Mullhollan, Robert Cochran and John A. Kirk will meet with visitors and sign copies of their books on Arkansas history.
