It is with great sadness that the family of MATTHEW OWENS BELEW announces his passing on November 12, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas Matt, age 45, was born March 15, 1973 to Judith Owens Belew and Johnny Merritt Belew in Little Rock. Matt grew up and graduated high school in Batesville, Arkansas in 1991 and then completed his degree from Hendrix College in 1996. Matt spent a year in Europe studying philosophy and law and obtaining a second degree from Southern Methodist University in 2000. Matt’s love of literature and philosophy gave him great joy and led to the writing of novels, short stories and poetry.

Matt will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Judy Belew of Little Rock and his father, Johnny Belew (Carolyn) of Fayettevil­le; his sister, Kristen Belew Hall; niece, Isabella Hall and nephew, Fisher Hall all of Little Rock; his grandmothe­r, Jean Owens of Beebe; aunt, Deborah Owens Walker; and cousin, Reed Walker both of New Braunfels, Texas. Matt was preceded in death by his maternal grandfathe­r, John E. Owens, Jr. and his paternal grandparen­ts, Rosabele and Clyde Belew, all of Beebe.

Neligan) Magner.

Debby passed away peacefully at home in the loving care of her family in her 90th year.

Debby was the wife of the late Jerry, much loved mother to Lyn and Jerry, adored grandmothe­r of Samantha and Parke Benjamin and mother-in-law to Bill Owens and the late Pixi Benjamin. She was the sister of James Magner and Norah Creavy both of Castletown­roche and sister-in-law of Lysle Benjamin. She was preceded by her sister, Maureen, sisterin-law Geraldine Magner of Castletown­roche and brothers-in-law, Bill and Tony of Jersey Channel Islands and her best friend Peggy Johnson. Debby will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, son, grandchild­ren, sister, brother, son-in-law, Bill, numerous nieces, nephews, grandniece­s, grandnephe­ws, cousins and friends around the world.

Her nieces, Sindy and Maeve attended Debby for extended periods during her illness, their kindness was a great comfort to Debby and her family.

Debby came to USA in 1947 and met Dad in New York. Our mother was very proud of becoming an American Citizen while Jerry was stationed in the territory of Alaska with the US Air Force. She moved to Little Rock Air Force Base with Jerry while he was with the SAC 43rd BW squadron flying the Supersonic B-58 Hustler. They retired in North Little Rock, where Debby owned and operated Gallery Flowers for over 30 years. She loved her work as a florist and the joy her flower arrangemen­ts gave to others. Debby loved her many animals and leaves behind cats Bailey, Myesha and Bo and Pekingese Lily and Sophie. Jim was employed by Smurfit Stone of Little Rock for 45 years. He enjoyed hunting, working in his yard, and spending time with his family and many friends.

Treece Dyer, as well as countless family and friends who will miss his quick wit and gentle presence.

Jimmie was reared in Searcy County, except for a few years in the 1920’s when his family went to California and Oklahoma. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1938, and went in to the Civilian Conservati­on Camp Program of the New Deal. He finished his service as the Chief Clerk of three CCC camps in Minnesota, and assisted in their closing in 1941. From there he went into the Naval Air Corps V-5 training program, eventually flying an F-6 Hellcat in the Pacific Theater in World War II; he served in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1946.

After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Arkansas, and enrolled at Arkansas Tech in Russellvil­le under the G.I. Bill. He completed his undergradu­ate degree in education in 3 years, and then enrolled in the Master’s Degree program at the University of Arkansas, taking his bride Alice with him to married housing on the Fayettevil­le campus.

His career as an educator spanned 30+ years. He began in Arkansas as a teacher in Cotter, then went to Marshall as a principal. He moved his family to Oklahoma in 1954 where he served as an elementary school principal for 12 years in Bixby and Broken Arrow. In 1966, he became the director of a pioneering Federal education Tele-Writer Program that brought long-distance learning to Barry County, Missouri. At the end of the project, he was hired as the Assistant Superinten­dent of the North Little Rock, Arkansas, schools, where he served until his retirement in 1983.

After retiring from the North Little Rock Schools, he returned to Searcy County where he farmed and raised cattle for 20 years. In 2007, Jimmie and Alice returned to Central Arkansas and lived in Little Rock until his death.

Jimmie and Alice had two daughters, Treeca Dyer Cotton (Jeff) and Trina Dyer Walden, who both survive him. He is also survived by his granddaugh­ters, Dr. Jordan Walden Woodruff (Dr. Daniel) and Emily Walden Short, as well as their father Chock Walden. He had four great-grandchild­ren, William, Isaac and Maggie Kate Woodruff, and Caroline Short who will miss their PawPaw.

Jimmie was baptized in Bear Creek in 1933 as part of the summer revival at Canaan Baptist Church in Searcy County. Throughout his long and interestin­g life, Jimmie was known as a Christian man of faith and principle, who demonstrat­ed his faith in Jesus Christ in his personal and profession­al lives. He participat­ed in Bible Study Fellowship for many years, was part of the Bob Millett Sunday School Class at Lakewood United Methodist Church in North Little Rock, served on the board of Young Life of Central Arkansas, was active in Ozark Conference­s Ministry, helped with the establishm­ent and building program of Searcy County Baptist Church, and finally attended Immanuel Baptist where he often taught a men’s Sunday School class.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his siblings Ralph Dyer, Raye Dyer Burton, and Virginia Dyer Horton; he is survived by his sisters, Nadine Dyer Maynard and Mary Jane Dyer Holder. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Jerry Maynard, Gary Maynard, Linda Burton Gibbs, Jim Horton, Cathy Horton Toney, Debbie Treece Thompson, Eddie Treece, Bradley Treece, Sara Ford, Susan Ford de la Mora, and George Joliff.

The family asks that memorials be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Young Life of Central Arkansas. 13, 2018. He was born August 22,

1939, in Puxico, Missouri, to Ellett and Flora Hardy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Alex Milewski.

Wayne was a member of Church at Willow Beach. He was an auto mechanic and owner and operator of a salvage yard. He was an U.S. Air Force veteran and served as an aircraft mechanic.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandra Gail Hardy; five children, Rick (Cleta) Hardy, Pam (Chris) Jones, Todd (Lisa) Hardy, Tammy Holley and Tina (John) Santoro; three sisters, Kay (John) Fields, Paula (Ron) Hill and Ginger Pike; 16 grandchild­ren; and by special family friends, the Tolliver family.

He was born September 30, 1923 in Carter County, Oklahoma, to Edd and Mae McFarland Parker. Ed was an athlete and loved to bowl with his wife Vertis. Ed enlisted in the Navy and served on the U.S.S. Chester during World War II and later joined the Air Force retiring with 22+ years of service.

–––––❖––––– PEGGY TOFFIER POUNDER, born June 11, 1927, died November 13, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 70 years,

Glenn Pounder, and their three daughters, Diana Pounder, Marsha Pounder Edgman, and Leah

Pounder St John.

Other surviving family members include grandson, Taylor Randall, granddaugh­ter, Jordan Guthrie Caudell with husband, Wes Caudell and their three young sons, Price, Hayes, and Will, and sons-in-law, Dennis Greenlee and Sam St John. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Pete and Zalema Toffier, her sister, Nellie Toffier, and her grandson, Grant Guthrie.

Peggy was out-going and outspoken, a strong advocate for women, and loved music, serving as her church organist for many years. She was an original ‘do-ityourself­er’, sewing her own and her daughters’ clothes for many years, as well as tastefully and frugally making a comfortabl­e home for her family. She and her husband actively supported their daughters’ pursuits and achievemen­ts in higher education and careers, as well as their interests in dance, sports, and music.

She earned an undergradu­ate degree in sociology and journalism from Oklahoma State University, served as a substitute teacher for some years, taught typing at Arkansas Enterprise­s for the Blind, and later worked as an executive secretary at A.O. Smith Industries.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 16 at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n or one’s favorite charity.

He loved gardening and his favorite mimosa tree. Bobby loved his family and enjoyed his grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren. He was loved by many and will be missed by them all.

She was a loving wife and mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Harold Smith, four brothers and one sister.

Betty Rose was born October 27, 1929 in

Tripp Junction,

Ark. between Tillar and McGehee, to Harry Phillip and Lyda Maude Runyan. She grew up on a dairy farm in Desha County, the youngest of seven, Betty Rose milked cows with her mother and delivered milk with her father in McGehee, Ark. She graduated from Tillar High School in 1947 where she played guard in “6 man” basketball. It was this year that she met the love of her life, Billy Harold, from Gould, Ark. Billy Harold saw her picture on the refrigerat­or in Mama Burns’ Grocery and Filling Station and asked who she was, then told everyone in the store, “I’m going to marry her”. He went on to meet Betty Rose in person at the Tillar High School gym following one of her basketball games.

Betty Rose and Billy Harold married on January, 28 1949. They moved to West Memphis in 1954 where they lived until August of 1972 when Billy’s job transferre­d them to Fort Smith. They lived in Fort Smith until 1990 when Billy retired and they were able to return to their beloved West Memphis and lots of dear friends. Betty Rose became President of the Meadowbroo­k Country Club Ladies Golf Associatio­n and traveled the state sharing her love for the game. Together, she and Billy Harold enjoyed many rounds of golf with those dear friends as well as rekindling old and lasting friendship­s.

She leaves behind her children; daughter, Cindy Lou Bius (Bill) of Marion, daughter, Mary Ruth Thompson (Nick) of Little Rock and son, Tommy Smith (Anne) of Bald Knob. Grandchild­ren include Mica Manning Morales (Zach) of Little Rock, Morgan Manning of Austin, Texas, Paige Thompson Skelton (Will) of Fayettevil­le, CJ Thompson of Little Rock, Jamie Moise of Little Rock, Nicki Miller (Phillip) of Searcy, and Jared Moise (Janell) of Searcy. Great-Grandchild­ren include Miles, Marin, McKenna, Madison, McKenley, Kennedy, Peighton and Liam.

Betty Rose was able to give back to her community by being a member of the West Memphis Junior Auxiliary, Bragg Elementary School PTA President and worked for a time at the St. Francis Levee District in West Memphis. She and her husband were members of First United Methodist Church in West Memphis where she was active in Women’s Circle. Betty Rose and Billy Harold were also members of the John Mack Smith Sunday School Class for forty eight years. In 1968, she went to work for the Arkansas Tourist Informatio­n Center in West Memphis and in 1969 she was selected to represent the state of Arkansas at the World Expo in Toronto, Canada. She loved cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks and was a true fan, win or lose.

The family would like to thank all the lovely people who compassion­ately cared for Betty Rose in her later years. The love and prayers extended to the family by friends and loved ones are especially appreciate­d during this time.
