14 teachers earn economics praise

Economics Arkansas recently named 14 Arkansas teachers as the 2018 Bessie B. Moore Award winners for excellence in economic and personal finance teaching in pre-kindergart­en through 12th-grade classrooms.

The teachers were honored by the nonprofit educationa­l organizati­on at the 23rd annual Bessie B. Moore awards luncheon Nov. 7 in the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidenti­al Center in Little Rock.

The winners and their projects were:

■ Phillip Carlock, “Stephens Elementary Financial Lit. Program,” Little Rock School District.

■ Melanie Adams, Amy Braswell, Jillane Johnson, Elizabeth McMichael and Rachel Racop, “It Takes a Village to Build a New Country,” Don Roberts Elementary School, Little Rock School District. ■ Larisha Nelson, “S.A.W. (Students at Work),” Crystal Hill Elementary School, Pulaski County Special School District.

■ Susie Thompson, “Satisfacti­on Guaranteed! (Or is it?) Globalizat­ion, Trade and World Economics,” Little Rock Christian Academy.

■ Jennifer Malugen, “Economics and the Three Little…,” Springdale School District.

■ Michele Jackson, “Make it Personal! Inspiring Teens to Embrace Personal Finance Responsibi­lity,” Siloam Springs School District.

■ Jessica Culver, “Yoganomics: Healthy, Wealthy and Wise Econ!” Ozark School District.

■ Tracy Floyd, Rheachel Hendricks and Kristina Thrift, “Economics Comes Naturally in the Natural State,” Fort Smith School District.
