Cheez-It Bowl not appetizing for spectators

- Compiled by Frankie Frisco

TCU won Wednesday night’s Cheez-It Bowl over California 10-7 in overtime. There were nine combined interceptions, a kicker swap that resulted in a missed field goal, and a sideline interference penalty on a Horned Frogs’ staff member who tripped over a yard marker.

Football fans on Twitter roasted the Horned Frogs and Bears for their miserable performance. Here’s a sampling:

“Cal-TCU is headed to overtime, and we’ve never owed you a bigger apology,” from the official Buffalo Wild Wings Twitter account.

“There are no winners of the Cheez-It Bowl. Only survivors,” sports writer Greg Tepper said.

“Of all the Cheez-It Bowls I have seen in my life, this definitely is the dumbest,” tweeted ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt.

From Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle:

“A Cheez-It Bowl ballboy just

TCU running back Sewo Olonilua holds the offensive player of the game trophy after he rushed for 194 yards and scored the Horned Frogs’ only touchdown in a 10-7 victory over California in the Cheez-It Bowl on Wednesday night. The bowl game, which featured nine interceptions, was mocked by many on social media. launched a pass 40 yards back to a kicker warming up, and both Cal head Coach Justin Wilcox and TCU head Coach Gary Patterson immediately offered the kid a scholarship to play in the second half.”

And this from Jessica Smetana of Sports Illustrated: “There are 16 flavors of Cheez-Its. There were 17 points in the Cheez-It Bowl.”

Irving with the assist

Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving took time before Thursday’s game at Houston to help out a man in need.

In the video given to TMZ Sports, Irving pulled out $240 in cash to give to a homeless man.

Thomas Moreno, who shot the footage on his cellphone, told TMZ Sports that the man was asking for assistance when Irving passed by on his way to the Celtics’ team bus.

Irving would go on to score 23 points in Boston’s 127-113 loss to the Rockets.

Talk about a problem

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive coordinator Keith Butler said Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert will be a “problem for us to cover” in Sunday’s game.

Which is a very true statement considering Eifert will be on the sidelines. Butler made the mental gaffe in an interview on “Coordinator’s Corner,” a weekly audio clip posted on Pittsburgh’s team website.

“I think he’s very good,” Butler said of Eifert in the since-deleted interview. “He’s up there. He can get deep on you. He does a good job of catching the ball downfield. So he’s going to be a problem for us to cover.”

Eifert has been out of the lineup since suffering an ankle injury in September. The Bengals have since used C.J. Uzomah at the tight end spot.

Baker’s RV for sale

The RV rented by Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield during training camp and featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks is for sale.

Per TMZ Sports, Neff Brothers, the company that rented out the RV, has put the vehicle valued at $195,000 on the market.

While that is a steep price tag, it’s worth pointing out the buyer will receive an autographed minifridge and the original renter’s contract that Mayfield signed.

It’s also outfitted with a Furion fireplace, Corian countertops, and heated and massaging theater seating.

Based on that description, why didn’t Mayfield just keep it for himself? Being able to travel around the country in a fancy RV, while making the Browns relevant for the first time in a decade, might make him the most interesting athlete in all of sports.
