DIANE HARRIS BONHAM, 70, of Little Rock, Ark., departed this life January 10.

She was preceded in death by her husband,

She leaves to cherish her memory daughter, Tanya Bonham-Scott (Richard); siblings, Gwendolyn Green, Rosetta Harris, Bernadette Harris, Martha J. ––––– ––––– JAMES DONALD “DON” CAMPBELL was born June 1, 1925 in Mountain View, Arkansas to James Thurman and May Lackey Campbell. Having a servant spirit, he began his adult life by serving his country and finished by serving his Lord and ministerin­g to those around him.

In May 1943, he left Mountain View to join the Army Air Corps and by the end of WWII he was a rated B-25 pilot and had been selected to become a P-38 fighter pilot. Following the war, he attended Hendrix College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administra­tion. He married Margaret Ane Cain in 1954 in Little Rock and they had four children, Cathy, Carol, Jim, and Martha. In addition to Little Rock, they lived for a time in El Dorado and Pine Bluff, as well as Yazoo City, Mississipp­i, and Amite, Louisiana. They returned to Little Rock in 2010 where Margaret Ane predecease­d him after over 56 years of marriage.

In his profession­al career he worked for various companies as an accountant, auditor, and comptrolle­r. Following his retirement from profession­al life, he was ordained and served as priest of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnatio­n in Amite, Louisiana. By studying directly under the instructio­n of the Bishop, he was the first priest in the Diocese of Louisiana ever to be ordained by studying outside a seminary. In addition to his church duties, he also served as both a prison and a hospice chaplain, until his declining health resulted in his final retirement at the age of 85.

He departed to his heavenly home on December 20, 2018; he died peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his four children, eight grandchild­ren and three great-grandchild­ren.

Memorial Services will be Friday, January 18; 11am at the Arkansas Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.

Wayne served in the U.S. Navy aboard a ship that landed at Iwo Jima. His personal belongings are at the Wayne Harris Exhibit at the Road to Tokyo Museum, located at the World War II Veterans Museum in New Orleans. Wayne was a founding member of First American National Bank in North Little Rock, where he served as Vice President and member of the Board of Directors. He served the community in a number of other leadership positions. He was owner of American Storage, Sherwood.

––––– ––––– MARCUS EUGENE “GENE” MACKEY, aka “Pops,” 90, of Little Rock, Ark., passed away on Jan. 8, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born to Marcus

Cora Mackey of Campbell, Mo., on March 21,

1928.

Gene/ Pops was a story teller, poet, reader (particular­ly Zane Grey novels), gardener and fisherman. He was a quiet, honorable man possessed of a wry, gentle wit. He was devoted to his family and his country, serving in the military and mentoring youth in the Boy Scouts. He grew up farming, hunting and fishing and then entered the Air Force in 1950, achieving the rank of Staff/ Sgt. as an Air Policeman for 10 years, with tours of duty in England and Korea. He received the Korean Service medal, the UN

service medal, and the Bronze Star for heroic action in a combat zone. Under the GI bill, he became a barber working for shops on Battery Street and Asher Avenue. He launched “Mackey’s Barber Shop” when he converted a Cities Service gas station on Kavanaugh Boulevard, specializi­ng in the then-popular “flat top” style. After retirement, he spent time gardening and crappie fishing, particular­ly at his favorite “fishing hole” on Lake Nimrod. One of his greatest joys was running into his hundreds of customer-friends to say hello, swap fish stories and tell jokes.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Willadean Mackey; his children Terryl Mackey, M.D., of Johnstown, Pa., and Mark Mackey of Little Rock, Ark.; as well as his grandchild­ren (great-grandchild­ren) Lauren Licatino (Owen, Henry) of Rochester, Minn., P. Logan Weygandt of Baltimore, Md., Terryn Lawrence (Evelyn, Clara) of Minneapoli­s, Minn., Nicole Mackey of Biloxi, Miss., and Jared Mackey of Little Rock, Ark.

––––– ––––– ERNIE DOYLE TABOR, 82, of Little Rock passed away January 1, 2019. He was born August 15, 1936 to the late Charles and Winnie Tabor of Little Rock.

In 1954, Ernie graduated from Little Rock Senior High. He was immediatel­y drafted by the Philadelph­ia Phillies baseball organizati­on

which gave him the opportunit­y to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing profession­al baseball.

After his career with the Phillies, Ernie began a long, successful career in sales. He went to work for Arkla Gas in

Little Rock and went on to help open the Arkla Gas division in Shreveport, La. In 1968 he became a sales manager for BF Goodrich Chemical. His career in sales continued when he joined Reagent Chemical in Houston, Texas as the National Sales Manager.

Ernie is survived by his wife and constant companion of 48 years, Rose Tabor; four children: Sherry (Tom) Elser, Scott (Maria) Tabor, Suzanne Maly Mullens and Tony Tabor; nine grandchild­ren: William (Claire) Elser, Suzanne (John) Pennington, Frank (Emily) Mullens, Heather (Drew) Watson, Nick (Haleigh) Mullens, and Katheryn, Maly, Dawson and Olivia Tabor; five great-grandchild­ren; and a sister, Carolyn (Charles) McDaniel. He was preceded in death by great-granddaugh­ter, Addie Elser.

Ernie was a communicat­e of the Cathedral of Saint Andrew for over 25 years.

––––– ––––– ALEXANDER — John Henry Merrell, 87, of Alexander, Arkansas, passed away on January 6, 2019. He was born on November 12, 1931 in Staten Island, New York to parents Thomas and Anna Merrell. He graduated from Curtis High School and the

United States Merchant Marine Academy. He was a Captain, employed by Texaco. John was so special to everyone lucky enough to have known him and will be truly missed. His nickname was “Jack” for the sole reason that he was a true “jack of all trades” — he could build and fix just about anything you could think of, including boats and furniture. He was an incredibly smart man with little words, but a full heart. John loved traveling by sea to different places all over the world with his wife, spending time with his family, and building model railroads both inside and outside his home.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years: Elaine Merrell, his beautiful daughter: Elaine McCaleb and her husband, Brad, and 6 grandchild­ren whom he loved dearly: Benjamin, and his wife Cynthia, Joshua, and his wife, Christa, Christophe­r, Rachel, Noah and Sarah, as well as 2 great-grandchild­ren, Isaiah and Finley. his parents and his brother, Thomas Merrell, who are all celebratin­g his arrival in Heaven.

––––– ❖ ––––– FAYETTEVIL­LE — Edna Earle Williams (Stephens), 90, of Fayettevil­le, formerly of Bryant, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, in Fayettevil­le.

Edna Earle was born April 25, 1928, in Conway, Ark., to the late Earl and Edna Stephens. She attended Conway Public Schools through sixth grade when the family moved to Kansas City, Mo.; they returned to Conway when she was a senior in high school. From Conway High, she attended Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Okla. After two years, she transferre­d to Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA). Edna Earle moved to Dumas in 1951 to accept an elementary teaching position. This is where she met and married the high school principal, J.K. Williams, on Aug. 23, 1953. They were married for 59 years until his death in 2012. In their education careers, Edna Earle and J.K. lived in Fayettevil­le from 1958-63, Paragould (1963-65), Blythevill­e (1965-70), and Cocoa Beach, Fla. (1970-71), before moving to Little Rock, where they remained after J.K.’s retirement.

Edna lived out her passion of teaching Sunday school classes and holding Bible studies in each of the places she lived. She also worked for the Arkansas State Legislatur­e for 20 years while it was in session.

Besides her husband and parents, Edna Earle was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill Stephens and Allen Stephens of Conway.

She is survived by her children, Steve Williams and his wife, Julie, of Malvern, Jaye Kay Brown and her husband, James, of Springdale, David Williams and his wife, Kristy, of Alexander, and Dr. Allen Williams and his wife, Shelley, of Prairie Grove; and her brother, Ken Stephens and his wife, Donna, of Conway. She dearly loved her grandchild­ren, Kadra Van Slyke and husband, Michael, of Bentonvill­e; J.R. Williams of North Little Rock; Devre’ Bain and husband, Devry, of Hot Springs; John Williams and wife, Natalie, of Bryant; Kara Wright and husband, Josh, of Alexander;

and Sydney Williams of Prairie Grove. She is also survived by her great-grandchild­ren, Brooklyn and Cash VanSlyke and Dakota and Daeson Rhodes.

GUY — Patricia Ann Alford Yancey, beloved wife, mother, and grandmothe­r, departed this earthly life into eternal life on Jan. 4, 2019.

Patricia was born on May 4, 1936, in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Lewis Emmett Alford and Mary Lou Springfiel­d Alford. She is preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Stewart Alford. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dan Yancey of Guy, Ark.; her brother, Michael Alford of Elk Grove, Calif.; her daughters, Dana Yancey Payne of Guy and Deborah (Bart) Pickens of Conway, Ark. She is survived by two grandchild­ren, also, Cheyenne Yancey Payne of Palo Alto, Calif., and Winston Lewis Payne of Santa Ana, Calif.

Patricia was a life-long Christian of the Methodist faith. For many years, she has been a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Ark., where she served in numerous ministries and was deeply connected to her church family. Most recently, Patricia had been attending Greenbrier First United Methodist Church in Greenbrier, Ark.

Patricia was a beautiful person who touched many lives in a positive way. She was an extraordin­arily loving person that everyone who knew her would tell you. The memory of her kindness, her gentleness, and her goodness brings us such joy. We are thankful for the knowledge and assurance that she rests in the presence of God and that we were blessed beyond words with the presence of her in our lives.

HOT SPRINGS — Burt Mann, 83, died December 21 2018 from Alzheimer’s disease in the presence of loved ones in Hot Springs, Ark.

He was born in Oklahoma City, he was a loving father to four children, Shaun Horton of OKC, Brittany Linden of St. Louis, Amber Weinzimer of Little Rock and Justin Mann of Fayettevil­le. He is survived by his wife, Donna Mann of Hot Springs, Ark.

Burt worked for Weyerhaeus­er for 32 years as a forester before starting his own forestry business. He enjoyed sailing at Grand Maumelle sailing club and all things outdoors.

Per Burt’s wishes his body was donated for Alzheimer’s research, thus there will be no funeral. An informal gathering among friends and family will be held at Lake Ouachita where his ashes will be placed. Arrangemen­ts are with Hot Springs Funeral Home.

Mr. Gresham was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jennifer Zeigler; and one son, Marc Gresham.

He is survived by his sons, Matthew Gresham of Harrisburg, Ark., Ben Gresham and wife, Jamie Pafford of Hope, Ark., and Jacob Eller and wife, Brandi of El Dorado, Ark. Also left to cherish his memory are three grandchild­ren.

Born on July 15, 1924, in Twin Bridges, Mont., she moved three months later with her family to Morrilton, Ark., so that her parents could join in the formation of a new Christian school, Harding College. Ten years later, they moved with the college to its current location in Searcy, Ark. She was the last survivor of the group that made the move with Harding and was the last living charter member of the College Church of Christ. After graduating from Harding Academy and Harding College, she began a 28-year teaching career, during which she taught speech, drama, grammar and literature. The opportunit­y to teach her favorite subject — history — eluded her.

She loved to travel. After having seen many cathedrals, museums and historical locations, she announced, at the age of 85, “I’ve seen all the manmade things I want to see so I’m going to the Bay of Fundy,” and she went.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Kathy and Earnest Rambo of St. Louis, Mo.; Susan Barkley Murray and Ken Bonnaffons of Central Valley, N.Y.; Cliff and Deborah Murray of Tulsa, Okla.; and Peggy Matson of Little Rock, Ark. She also is survived by five grandchild­ren, Phillip Murray, Amanda Murray Hodges, Amy Bonnaffons, Caitlin Rambo and Blythe Bonnaffons; two great-grandchild­ren; and her brother, Neil Coleman of Jonesboro, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Malcolm C. Murray, who died in 2001; her parents, Marion Coleman and Ermine Houchens Coleman; and her siblings, Orville Coleman, Enid Alsobrook, and Keith Coleman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. in Cone Chapel in the Heritage Building on the campus of Harding University.

A private burial service was held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Searcy.

STAR CITY — Wanda Morrison Majors West, 91, of Star City, Ark., formerly of Dermott, passed away Jan. 11, 2019, in Star City. She was born May 12, 1927, in Pansy, Ark., to the late Robert Hale and Josephine Stephens Morrison.

Wanda was a member of First United Methodist Church in Star City and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Sam Majors, Gerald Steed and Morris West; and by one grandson. Jack was a graduate of the Little Rock Central High Class of 1956. He is a veteran of the United States Army, where he reached the rank of Captain. Following his service, Jack attended University of Arkansas where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineerin­g. Jack retired from Procter and Gamble after working as an engineer for 33 years. He was a member of Kirk of the Hills Presbyteri­an Church where he sang in the choir. He was also very involved with the Boy Scouts, where he helped all three of his sons become an Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed collecting coins and genealogy. Jack loved everyone and never had an enemy. He enjoyed a good joke and always had a smile on his face. He was there to help a friend in need and was most proud of his grandkids.

––––– ––––– PITTSBORO, N.C. — On June 12, 2018, we mourned the loss of Dorothy Pockrus — beloved mother, sister, and friend — in Pittsboro, N.C.

She died early in the morning, succumbing to a fight with breast cancer in which she had shown bravery and resilience for years.

She met the many challenges of life and of old age with humor and resolve, right to her last breath.

Dorothy was born and raised in Plum Bayou Township, Ark. A woman known for her generosity, wry wit, as well as her love of food, poetry, and birds, she led a full life and is survived by three successful daughters — Camille, Cherie, and Jean. After her death, she received a green burial at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens in Wake Forest, N.C., attended by family and friends. She is and will always be deeply missed.

––––– ––––– RICHMOND, Texas — Betty McCartney Berry, 83, formerly of Arkadelphi­a, died Friday January 11, 2019 at Cambridge Health and Rehab in Richmond, Texas. Betty was the only child of her parents, who owned a local general store in rural, central Louisiana.

She attended college at Northweste­rn State University in Natchitoch­es, Louisiana where she was a majorette and an art major.

After marrying and becoming a loving mother to three sons, she later earned a master’s degree from Henderson

State University in Arkadelphi­a, Arkansas.

She taught art in public schools in both Arkansas and Louisiana. For over twenty years, she was an assistant professor of art at Ouachita Baptist University where she served as the chair of the art department for many years. A highlight of her career was an extended trip to Europe during which she was able to see many of the world’s great works of art and enjoy a culture that inspired her sense of fashion, her interest and work as a jewelry designer, and her passion for sharing art with others. She lived her life as an artist, experienci­ng light and color as an expression of beauty, and always helping others to see the world in this same sense of vibrancy.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Flem and Mattie Lee McCartney, and one cherished son, Joseph Fleming “Jay” Berry.

She is survived by two beloved sons, Trey Berry (Katherine) of Magnolia, and Clay Berry (Marilyn) of Richmond, Texas and two adored grandchild­ren, Tanner and Berkeley.

Visitation will be on Monday January 14, 2019 from twelve (12) noon to 1:00 p.m. at Ruggles - Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphi­a.

Visitation will be followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m. in the Ruggles-Wilcox Chapel. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Arkadelphi­a.
